Phenotypic approach in the treatment of COPD is lacking in general medical facilities, despite the importance of this data. Objectives: The study aimed to identify divergences in features, pharmacologic regimens of COPD by clinical phenotypes in the real-life context of care units in Can Tho City that manage outpatients with chronic respiratory diseases.

Two novel rare mutations, MCAD842GfiC (R256T) and MCAD 1166AfiG (K364R), have been investigated to assess how far the bio-chemical properties of the mutant proteins correlate with the clinical phenotype of medium chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD) deficiency. When the gene for K364R was overexpressed inEscherichia coli, the syn-thesized mutant protein only exhibited activity when the gene for chapero-nin GroELS was co-overexpressed.

The high water permeability of certain biological membranes is due to the presence of aquaporin water channel proteins. AQP1 was discovered in human red cells. AQP1 has been thoroughly characterized biophysically, and the atomic structure of AQP1 has been elucidated. Ten homologs have been identified in humans. These are selectively permeated by water (aquaporins) or water plus glycerol (aquaglyceroporins). The sites of expres-sion predict the clinical phenotypes in humans. Individuals lack-ing Colton blood group antigens have mutations in the AQP1 gene. ...

Despite the unique phenotypic properties and clinical importance ofPeni-cillium marneffei, the polyketide synthase genes in its genome have never been characterized. Twenty-three putative polyketide synthase genes and two putative polyketide synthase nonribosomal peptide-synthase hybrid genes were identified in theP.

Opioid analgesics such as morphine and meperidine have been used to control moderate to severe pain for many years. However, these opioids have many side effects, including the development of tolerance and dependence after long-term use, which has limited their clinical use. We previously reported that mutations in the muopioid receptors (MOR) S196L and S196A rendered them responsive to the opioid antagonist naloxone without altering the agonist phenotype. In MORS196A knock-in mice, naloxone and naltrexone were antinociceptive but did not cause tolerance or physical dependence.
