The present study was conducted in three potential cocoon producing districts of Jammu province of J&K state during 2016-17. The impact of different climatic conditions viz., spring (March-April) and autumn (September-October) on the incidence of major diseases in silkworm were studied. The results indicated the disease incidence was higher during the autumn rearing as compared to spring rearing. Highly significant correlation of temperature and humidity with different diseases and cocoon yield on the basis of ‘r’ value was recorded from the studied locations.

The principle of efficient use of available system for quality improvement is tried to utilize in the present study. The present attempt was undertaken to study the influence of acetone solution of Ferruginol, a natural phenol and a meroterpene compound, on the cocoon characters and silk filament parameters of silk worm Bombyx mori (L.) (Race: PM x CSR2). Three concentrations (5ppm; 10ppm and 20ppm) of Ferruginol were prepared.

The effect of temperature plays a crucial role in the silkworm, Bombyx mori L., growth as well as cocoon quality and quantity. In this study, the effect of temperature during chawki rearing on later stages and its cocoon production was evaluated without maintaining any recommended practices of temperature and relative humidity during chawki rearing. The perusal of the data reveals that, the larval duration was observed as 28 days and 3 hours. It was observed that the second moult was the longest about 53 hours. Single cocoon weight was observed as 2.22 g, single shell weight was 0.

Field experiments were carried out during Kharif and Rabi seasons of two years at the Department of Sericulture, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore to study the influence of different pruning heights in mulberry and integrated nutrient management (INM) practices on growth, leaf and cocoon productivity as well as profitability in mulberry. The experiments were laid out in a strip plot design with three main plot treatments and six sub plot treatments replicated thrice.

Feeding is the most important factor in silkworm rearing, as it has a direct impact on growth and development of worms. Silkworm requires feed five times a day at an interval of five hours. However, the rearers of J&K state feed the worms two times only, resulting in lower cocoon yield. Feeding of quality mulberry leaves has a great impact on biology and physiology of silkworm Bombyx mori L. The study revealed 3 feedings per day was statistically at par with 4 feedings in terms of various parameters including larval survival percentage i.e. 93.50 ± 0.76 for 3 feedings and 95.00 ± 0.

Silkworm seed technology laboratory, Kodathi is producing P2 Dfls through Race maintenance programme in limited manner to supply selected Basic seed farms to rear and generate P1 seed cocoons for hybrid preparation to West Bengal in the event of seed crop failures. In the present investigation, Nistari ecotypes Chalsa, Balapur and Debra, M6DPC were evaluated almost for 5 years. The mean performance of these breeds was shown significant differences for the majority of the traits with excellent pupation rate.

A study was undertaken in farmer’s field condition by utilizing established five tree mulberry gardens of one-year-old and above and one bush mulberry garden as a control in each of the Chikkaballapura and Kolar Districts. The silkworm hybrids namely PM×CSR2 in Chikkaballapura cluster and double hybrid (FC1×FC2) in Kolar cluster were reared on leaves harvested from both tree and bush mulberry plantations and economic parameters were recorded.

The present investigation was carried out at Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute, Pampore, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) during spring, summer and autumn, 2018 to study the performance of 24 bivoltine silkworm, Bombyx mori L, foundation crosses (12 Oval & 12 Constricted) under temperate climatic conditions. The rearing was carried out under uniformed laboratory condition by adopting standard method. These 24 bivoltine silkworm foundation crosses (FC) were evaluated for their performance in eight metric traits viz., fecundity (No.
