Coefficient of friction

In the scope of the paper studying the pile group effect in case of multilayered foundation, especially the effect of porous, medium-tight sand layers in the foundation on the load bearing capacity and subsidence of friction piles, the following issues are clarified: (i) coefficient of pile group in multi-layered foundation, with sand and clayey soil layer; (ii) distribution of forces along the pile shaft; (iii) effect of pile group on settlement of the pile group.

This paper develops a constant friction coefficient model that best represents a velocity-dependent friction model for predicting structural response of buildings isolated with concave friction bearings. To achieve this goal, the effect of friction model on structural response of three hypothetical isolated buildings with different number of stories subjected to different earthquake scenarios was numerically investigated.

We numerically study the effects of the size polydispersity and the friction coefficient on the compressive strength of wet granules under a diametrical compression test by using discrete element simulations. The numerical method is coupled with the capillary cohesion law which is enhanced by the cohesive forces between grains in the pendular regime.

This study presents a formulation of the nominal’s coefficient and friction forces generated in machining between workpiece and cutting tool using cutting force profiles. The obtained equations led to the evaluation of coefficient, frictional forces and cutting inserts characterization in terms of better surface finish and lowest frictional forces.
