Ethiopia is one of the world centers of genetic diversity and origin of barley crop. Now a day the country is conserve many cereal crops under cold room storage, gene bank. One of the conserved crops is barley. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of long term storage factors on nutritional value of barley that tested in 1993 and compare the results with nutritional value of barley that tested after 25 years (2018).

A new nanocomposite superhydrophobic of the RTV (room temperature vulcanized) silicon rubber reinforced with a different percentage of nanosilica was prepared by a two-stage sol-gel route to obtain a superhydrophobic surface coating on high voltage glass insulator, preventing the dust-water droplet from adhering to its surface. The cold spraying technique was utilized to build up a thin nanocomposite superhydrophobic layer on the glass insulator containing different percentages of the nanosilica particles, such as 23 wt %, 33 wt %, and 44 wt % with RTV silicon substrate.

The present study was carried out to identity the volatile component in coconut milk samples using direct solvent extraction (Hexane), followed by high-vacuum distillation and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. The samples were extracted ultrasonically followed by shaking at room temperature and kept overnight at room temperature for cold extraction.

The study was conducted to find out the effect of storage conditions and packaging on sensory evaluation of rice. Rice grains were stored in different packaging materials viz., vacuum packed bags (C1), polythene bags (C2), cloth bags (C3) and gunny bags (C4) stored at room temperature (25 ± 2º C) and cold storage (4 ± 1º C) for a period of 18 months.

Shelf life studies of food products are gaining impetus due to the consumer awareness towards quality of the ready to cook products. The present study was designed to assess the keeping quality and shelf life of tomato powder incorporated rice based cold extrudates. The Cavatelli extrudates using ingredients: rice flour, wheat flour and tomato powder in the proportion of 36:54:10 respectively was developed and stored under room temperature. The stored samples were evaluated for sensory characteristics and microbial assay at regular intervals for 60 days.

An investigation to evaluate the storage-life of Marigold cv. „Calcutta Gainda‟ at room conditions and inside cold storage was undertaken at Ecofrost Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Tathawade, Pune (MH), India during the monsoon 2016-17. The best flowers from a farmer‟s field were selected based on quality and the effect of cold storage (4°C and 93% RH) and packaging on the storage-life of these flowers was studied. The experiment showed flowers kept inside cold storage to have minimum weight loss (lb), minimum shrivelling percentage, minimum rot percentage, better appearance and brighter colour.

The longest storage life was recorded in Sweet Orange cv. “Mosambi”, Mandarin cv. “Kinnow”, Acid Lime, Pineapple cv. “Queen”, Beetroot, Watermelon, Capsicum cv. “Bombay Green”, Cabbage, Ivy Gourd, Bitter Gourd (Green) and Hot chilli, and the shortest in Broccoli, Lettuce and Ridge Gourd inside cold room. Storage at Ecofrost at 10°C and 93% relative humidity can extend life and improve post-harvest quality retention for fruit and veggies, but its effects vary depending on the commodity.

Storage at 4ºC with 95% RH was evaluated as the best condition to maintain the shelf life of gerbera flowers of different varieties. Flower buds were packed in plastic bag and immersed in water, and then stored at ambient and also inside cold room of Ecofrost. Post storage life of gerbera decreased with increase in storage duration. The cold room stored flowers had shown post dry storage life 2.5 hours in ambient condition, even after taken out after 13 days of cold storage.

The effects of sucrose pulsing, cold storage methods (dry and wet) and cold storage duration (one and two weeks) on the post-storage attributes of cut lilies in Dalat were studied. After harvest, the lilies were treated with sucrose pulsing solutions consisting of three concentrations of sucrose (0, 50, and 100 g/L) in combination with 0.2 mM silver thiosulphate (STS) and water as control for 24h at room temperature, then placed in wet and dry cold storage at 2.5 °C for one and two weeks.

Performance of an Evaporative cooled (EC) room, built in hot and dry region of Punjab, was evaluated by storing the tomato fruits (var. Naveen) in it. Tomatoes were also stored in two other storage conditions, cold store (CS) and room conditions (RC). Average temperature and RH inside EC room during study was 26.5°C and 65-78%, respectively. The temperature and RH of RC and CS storage conditions were 25-41°C and 20-35%, and 10°C and 90%, respectively.

Guava is highly perishable in nature, having shelf life only 2-3 days at ambient condition which is a concern during marketing and transportation. Hence a study was under taken to extend the shelf life of guava using a chemical named hexanal which is a chemical used to delay the ripening of fruits. Hexanal treatments such as 1200 μll-1 for 4.5 h, 1400 μll-1 for 3 h and 4.5 h and 1600 μll-1 for 3 h and 4.5 h had minimum change in texture and color. Hence these treatments were selected for further studies.

This paper reports a study of the effect of disinfection solution Diox Forte (chlorine dioxide - ClO2) at 0, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 ppm on the shelflife of grapes and tomatoes at room temperature and cold store (5oC). The shelflives of grapes and tomatoes were significantly increased when treated with Diox Forte at 40 ppm for grapes and 10 – 20 ppm for tomatoes. The shelflife of grapes treated with Diox Forte at 40 ppm at room temperature and cold store (5oC) was increased for up to 17 days and 22 days respectively.

A cold atmospheric pressure gliding arc plasma jet has been developed and applied to disinfection. The size of the plasma output is about 6 mm in diameter and 10 mm in length. Ar gas at a flow rate of 10 slm and 25 W plasma power are used. Plasma discharge is produced between the divergent electrodes and the jet appears as an effluence of the gas flow. When a pseudomonas culture is placed at 8 mm below the torch for 1minute, where the gas is at room temperature, the bacteria within a 16 mm diameter circle are almost completely killed.
