Combining ability analysis in Brinjal
-
Analysis of variance for combining ability revealed that variances due to gca and sca were significant for all the traits except for TSS that exhibited non-significant mean squares for gca and sca in environment E1 only suggesting the importance of both types of variances in the inheritance of the traits. GCA and SCA also interacted significantly with the environments. The estimates of dominance variance were higher in magnitude than corresponding estimates of additive variance indicating the preponderance of non-additive gene action.

With prime objective of developing season/region specific hybrid, the present investigation was undertaken to obtain the information on the per se performance, heterosis, combining ability, nature of gene action and stability parameters for fruit yield and its components in brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) using line x tester analysis at Navsari during 2014-15. Female parent, JBG-10-208 recorded the highest fruit yield per plant, while, PLR-1 was the highest yielding male parent.

The present investigation entitled “Genetic analysis of F1 hybrids in brinjal (Solanum melongena L.)” was carried out at Main Garden, Department of Horticulture, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola. Eleven genotypes (Aruna, Bhandara local, Wadsa local, Bhatai local, Manjarigota, Chandur local, Ruchira, Krishna Kathi, White Round, DBSR-52, White Brinjal) were crossed in line x tester mating design during kharif 2013.
