Comparing their spectroscopic data

The leaves of Combretum quadrangulare Kurz. collected in Long An Province were chemically investigated using multiple chromatographic methods. Four compounds, 5-hydroxy3,7,4′-trimethoxyflavone (1), ayanin (2), kamatakenin (3), and luteolin (4) were isolated and elucidated. Their chemical structures were elucidated by comparing their spectroscopic data with those in previous reports.

Seven compounds including abietatriene (1), oleanolic acid (2), quercetagetin 3,7-dimethyl ether (3), luteolin (4), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (5), p-methylbenzoic acid (6), and protocatechuic acid (7) were isolated from the n-hexane: ethyl acetate (1:1) extract of Vitex negundo leaves collected in Binh Thuan Province. Their chemical structures were elucidated by comparing their spectroscopic data with reported data in the literature. Six compounds (exception of 4) were known to be present in Vitex negundo.

Phytochemical data of Sterculia foetida Linn. are scarce. The leaves of Sterculia foetida Linn. collected in Binh Thuan Province were chemically investigated using multiple chromatographic methods. Three compounds, hesperidin (1), kaempferol (2) and ursolic acid (3) were isolated and elucidated. Their chemical structures were elucidated by comparing their spectroscopic data with those in previous studies. These compounds were found for the first time from the leaves of Sterculia foetida Linn. Compounds 1 was obtained for the first time in Sterculia genus.

Five prenylated caged xanthones: desoxymorellin (1), morellic acid (2), gambogic acid (3), isogambogic acid (4) and 10α-butoxy gambogic acid (5), were isolated from the stem bark of Garcinia hanburyi collected in Vietnam. Their structures were elucidated by detailed 1D, 2D NMR, MS spectroscopic analyses and compared with reported data. Two major constituents, gambogic acid and isogambogic acid, displayed strong cytotoxicity against LLC and SK-LU-1cell lines with IC50 values in the range from 0.35±0.05 µM to 2.26±0.19 µM.

In this study, phytochemical investigation of the n-hexane and ethyl acetate extract of leaves and twigs of Urena lobata L. led to the isolation of β-sitosterol (1), β-sitosterol3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), 2-acetylamino-3-phenylpropyl 2-benzoylamino-3-phenylpropanoate (3), quercetin (4), and trans-tiliroside (5). Their chemical structures were determined by spectroscopic methods, including MS, 1D-, 2D- NMR, and by comparing their spectral data with those reported in previous papers. Compounds 3 and 5 were isolated for the first time from Urena lobata L.

Phytochemical research on the chloroform and ethyl acetate extracts of the rhizomes of Curculigoannamitica Gagnep. collected in Binh Chau - Phuoc Buu Nature Reserve, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, led to the isolation of five phenolic compounds namely 3,4- dimethoxysalicylicacid(1), 2-hydroxy-6-methoxybenzoicacid(2), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (3), pcoumaric acid (4) and 2-(ethoxymethyl) benzene-1,4-diol (5). Seven tetraoxygenated xanthones, namely fuscaxanthone A, 7-O-methylgarcinone E, cowagarcinone A, cowaxanthone, rubraxanthone, cowanin and cowanol, were isolated from the dichloromethane extract of the latex of Garcinia cowa Roxb. ex Choisy.
