In the last decade, the consumption trend of organic food has increased dramatically worldwide. However, the lack of reliable chemical markers to discriminate between organic and conventional products makes this market susceptible to food fraud in products labeled as “organic”.

The main component of carotenoids (lyco-red) extracted from tomato peels was lycopene, phytoene, phytofluene, b-carotene, cis-lycopene and lutein. Consequently, the higher stability of carotenoids (lyco-red) extracted from tomato peels was observed in alkaline pH ranging from 7 to 10 and temperature ranging from 40 to 70 C.

This study aimed to detect the gray mold disease at an early stage on tomato fruits using the non-destructive visible/near-infrared (VIS/NIR) technique. Botrytis. cinerea fungus was isolated and identified using two specific primer sets (C729+/- and BC108+/BC563-). Three tomato varieties were used for this study (i.e. Harver, Izmer and Ekram), 30 samples from each variety, 20 samples were injected with the B. cinerea and 10 samples were left as control/healthy samples.

Tomato is one of the most important vegetables cultivated in Vietnam. Besides its regular consumption as a vegetable, a new demand for using tomato as a decorative plant on special occasions was identified in recent years. This study aimed to characterize new tomato accessions on their desirable morphological traits to select potential materials for further breeding programs of ornamental tomato varieties in Vietnam.

Sterols are structural and functional components of eukaryotic cell membranes. Plants produce a complex mixture of sterols, among which β-sitosterol, stigmasterol, campesterol, and cholesterol in some Solanaceae, are the most abundant species.

The genetic variance of any morphometric or quantitative trait is indicated additive variance (heritable) and non-additive variance and comprise dominance and epistasis (non-allelic interaction) altered by environmental conditions (Iqbal et al., 2014; Kumar et al., 2017; Spaldon and Kumar, 2017).

The nature and magnitude of genetic divergence was estimated in 35 genotypes of tomato using Mahalanobis D2 – statistics. The genetic material revealed considerable amount of diversity for all the characters investigated. All the genotypes were grouped into 4 clusters. Maximum number of genotypes was accommodated in cluster III.

The experiment was conducted in Department of Horticulture, Agriculture College, Dharwad during the year 2017-18. Fifty crosses were evolved by crossing 10 females (lines) with five males (Testers) in line x tester fashion and were evaluated along with the parents and commercial check in randomized block design. Data was been subjected to line x tester analysis. Analyses of variance were found significant for crosses with respect to yield and quality parameters studied.

Heterosis, Tomato, Yield and A 8x8 full diallel cross of tomato was evaluated with parents and cheks for heterotic manifestation of yield and yield attributing characters. The heterosis over commercial check-2 to the extent of 107.08, 59.79, -13.59, 174.70 and 13.58 per cent was recorded for plant height at 60 DAP, number of branches per plant 60 DAT, days to fifty per cent flowering, number of fruits per plant and average fruit weight respectively. The crosses showing heterosis for yield per plant were not heterotic for all the characters under study.
