This thesis represents the first comprehensive study on the performance (raw and risk-adjusted), performance persistence, and market timing ability of the equity funds in Hong Kong Mandatory Provident Funds (MPF) scheme during the period 2001 – 2004. Regardless of the measure used (Jensen single-index alpha measure, Fama-French three-factor alpha measure, and modified Jensen alpha controlled by changes in exchange rates), US equity funds and Pacific-Basin excluding Japan equity funds, are found to consistently underperform relative to the market.

The current research is undertaken by performing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations for a 2D aerofoil fitted with a shock control bump at a transonic flow condition. Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equation coupled with turbulence models is adopted to solve the flowfield. The bump has a conventional geometric feature which consists of a ramp, a crest and a tail, and it has eight variants for which the designed parameters are reasonably specified according to the compressible aerodynamics theory.

In proteobacteria capable of H2oxidation under (micro)aerobic conditions, hydrogenase gene expression is often controlled in response to the availab-ility of H2. The H2 -sensing signal transduction pathway consists of a het-erodimeric regulatory [NiFe]-hydrogenase (RH), a histidine protein kinase and a response regulator.

BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS FOR THE 2ND-ORDER SEIBERG-WITTEN EQUATIONS CELSO MELCHIADES DORIA Received 8
BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS FOR THE 2ND-ORDER SEIBERG-WITTEN EQUATIONS CELSO MELCHIADES DORIA Received 8 June 2004 It is shown that the nonhomogeneous Dirichlet and Neuman problems for the 2nd-order Seiberg-Witten equation on a compact 4-manifold X admit a regular solution once the nonhomogeneous Palais-Smale condition is satisfied. The approach consists in applying the elliptic techniques to the variational setting of the Seiberg-Witten equation. The gauge invariance of the functional allows to restrict the problem to the Coulomb subspace C of configuration space.
