The aim of this Masters of Engineering (MEng) - Aerospace thesis was to investigate the durability of Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensors (PWAS) for the health monitoring of composite structures. One significant challenge faced by the aviation industry is the cost and time associated with maintaining aircrafts, in particular, aging airliners. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is a possible approach to reduce the high cost of inspection and maintenance.

In this paper, a novel improvement in the catalytic Fenton reaction system named MHACF-NH2-MIL-101(Cr) was constructed based on H2 and Pd/NH2-MIL-101(Cr). The improved system would result in an accelerated reduction in FeIII, and provide a continuous and fast degradation efficiency of the 10 mg L-1 4-chlorophenol which was the model contaminant by using only trace level FeII. The activity of Pd/NH2-MIL-101(Cr) decreased from 100% to about 35% gradually during the six consecutive reaction cycles of 18 h. That could be attributed to the irreversible structural damage of NH2-MIL-101(Cr).

The purpose of this study is to identify if participation in an eccentric exercise protocol altered the Coleimpedance model parameters that represent localized bicep tissue bioimpedance. This supports continued efforts to identify which features of tissue bioimpedance may be effective markers to non-invasively identify skeletal muscle damage.

In the present work the ultimate failure load and the collapse mechanism of a stone arch bridge are estimated by the usage of (a) a multi - part elastic model with unilateral contact frictional interfaces and (b) a continuous damage model. According to the contact model, contact interfaces simulating potential cracks are considered and their opening or sliding indicates crack initiation.

We use a series of computational models to estimate health damages attributable to air pollution from these plants, we compare these damages to estimates of damanges from non- maquiladora industrial polluters, and we use regression analysis to determine whether the poor suffer disproportionately from maquiladora air pollution. Two important caveats are in order. The two maquiladora plants for which we estimate health damages were selected for idiosyncratic reasons, and therefore may not be particularly representative.
