The aim of the present study was to explore whether improvements in guideline adherence can be achieved through the implementation of regional treatment pathways. We chose four regions of Germany with high utilisation of CAs for the study. Here we report the results of the concomitant qualitative study.

Quality of life after open heart surgery shows the level of impact on the patients; moreover, it also reflects physical, functional, and psychosocial decline caused by diseases of the entity. This study evaluates the characteristics of quality of life of patients one month after open heart surgery according to the SF-36 health scale at Hue Central Hospital.

Acute myocardial infarction may occur following cocaine abuse. Cocaine-induced infarction is particularly common in younger patients aged 18 to 45 years old. Patients may or may not have evidence of coronary artery disease at the time of symptom presentation.

This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics and prognostic value of fibrinogen/albumin index (FAR) in ACS patients with multiple coronary artery branch lesions after 3 months follow-up. In this cross-sectional description and follow-up study, the major blood proteins in ACS patients were evaluated using standard methods.

Genome-wide association studies have identified over 160 loci that are associated with coronary artery disease. As with other complex human diseases, risk in coronary disease loci is determined primarily by altered expression of the causal gene, due to variation in binding of transcription factors and chromatin-modifying proteins that directly regulate the transcriptional apparatus.

Inherited susceptibility to common, complex diseases may be caused by rare, pathogenic variants (“monogenic”) or by the cumulative effect of numerous common variants (“polygenic”). Comprehensive genome interpretation should enable assessment for both monogenic and polygenic components of inherited risk.

Polygenic risk scores (PRSs) are a summarization of an individual’s genetic risk for a disease or trait. These scores are being generated in research and commercial settings to study how they may be used to guide healthcare decisions. PRSs should be updated as genetic knowledgebases improve; however, no guidelines exist for their generation or updating.

Several polygenic risk scores (PRS) have been developed for cardiovascular risk prediction, but the additive value of including PRS together with conventional risk factors for risk prediction is questionable. This study assesses the clinical utility of including four PRS generated from 194, 46K, 1.5M, and 6M SNPs, along with conventional risk factors, to predict risk of ischemic heart disease (IHD), myocardial infarction (MI), and first MI event on or before age 50 (early MI).

Coronary artery disease (CAD) remains the leading cause of mortality worldwide despite enormous efforts devoted to its prevention and treatment. While many genetic loci have been identified to associate with CAD, the intermediate causal risk factors and etiology have not been fully understood. This study assesses the causal effects of 37 heritable clinical factors on CAD in East Asian and European populations.

Renal cell carcinoma accounts for 2–3% of all malignant cancers in adults and is characterized by the potential development of venous tumor thrombus. Radical nephrectomy and thrombectomy with reconstruction of the inferior vena cava combined with coronary artery bypass graft can be performed safely and effectively in selected patients with renal cell carcinoma and significant coronary artery disease. Multidisciplinary teamwork and careful patient selection are essential for optimal outcomes.

Coronary artery anomalies are characterized by an abnormality in the course or origin of three main coronary arteries. There needs to be more scientific evidence to promptly treat coronary artery anomalies with poorly understood prognostic implications, especially anomalous aortic origin of the right coronary artery from the left coronary cusp.

Brugada syndrome is a rare disease. It causes sudden cardiac arrest, which is a serious life-threatening event. Sudden cardiac death mostly results from coronary artery disease. However, patients with Brugada syndrome show normal cardiac anatomy and no evidence of ischemia or electrolyte imbalance.

Coronary artery ectasia is a rare angiographic finding and results from a disease process that compromises the integrity of the vessel wall. Its prevalence ranges between 0.3% and 5% of patients undergoing coronary angiography (Swaye et al. in Circulation 67:134–138, 1983).

Many clinical and paraclinical studies related to coronary artery disease have been done in Vietnam in recent years. However, there have been no studies on nurses’ knowledge and practice regarding patient care after coronary angiography (CAG) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This study was conducted to assess nurses' knowledge and practice on patient’s safety after CAG or PCI and its associated factors.

A strong association of gemcitabine to acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is not currently established in the literature. In this series, we highlight that both patients with gemcitabine-related ACS were more than 50 years old, had underlying coronary artery disease and suffered from metastatic cancer.

Left main coronary artery (LMCA) atresia is a rare congenital heart disease and can be fatal in pediatric patients. We report an adult case of LMCA atresia, in which heart failure developed without episodes suggesting angina. A 40-year-old man presented with difficulty breathing. Echocardiography revealed diffuse hypokinesis of the left ventricle with an ejection fraction of 22% in the absence of significant valvular disease.
