Among SNP markers that become increasingly valuable in molecular breeding of crop plants are the CAPS and dCAPS markers derived from the genes of interest. To date, the number of such gene-based markers is small in polyploid crop plants such as allotetraploid cotton that has A- and D-sub-genomes.

Interspecific hybridization and whole genome duplication are driving forces of genomic and organism diversification. But the effect of interspecific hybridization and whole genome duplication on the non-coding portion of the genome in particular remains largely unknown.

Cotton fibers provide a powerful model for studying cell differentiation and elongation. Each cotton fiber is a singular and elongated cell derived from epidermal-layer cells of a cotton seed. Efforts to understand this dramatic developmental shift have been impeded by the difficulty of separation between fiber and epidermal cells.

Phased small interfering RNA (phasiRNA) is primarily derived from the 22-nt miRNA targeting loci. GhMYB2, a gene with potential roles in cotton fiber cell fate determination, is a target gene of miR828 and miR858 in the generation of phasiRNAs.

Cotton leaf curl disease is the major constraint in cotton production in the Indian subcontinent. A field study (2012-2017) was conducted to assess seed cotton yield on Bt cotton cultivars analogous to the symptom rating scales (DRS) of CLCuD. The DRS is used to derive the percent disease intensity (PDI).

Present investigation was carried out with 38 cotton genotypes including both the species G. arboreum and G. hirsutum in randomized complete block design with three replications. The observations were reported form three randomly selected plant from each treatment and replication on 17 characters viz., Plant height (cm), number of nodes per plant, length of internodes (cm), number of monopodia per plant, number of sympodia per plant, number of bolls per plant.

Cotton (Gossypium spp.) is one of the important commercial crops grown for its natural fibre, which has its own place among many other natural and synthetic fibres. Among the commercial crops grown in India, cotton occupies a pride place of being the prime supplier of raw material (85%) for textile industry, which is one of the leading industries in the country. In India, cotton provides means of livelihood for about 60 million people through its cultivation, trade and industrial use. Exploitation of heterosis has lead to improvement in productivity of different crops including cotton.

Cotton, Recombinant inbred lines (RIL), phenotypic (PCV) and There is a limited genetic variability available in genetic resources of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.), which restricted the breeding activity. The objective of present study was evaluating the genetic variability in RIL population derived through intraspecific hybridization between RHAP 12 and RHAP 15 genotypes. The 222 RIL were evaluated during kharif 2018 at University of Agricultural Sciences Dharwad.

Twenty four hybrid combinations derived by crossing six arboreum lines (PA 713, PA 743, PA 734, PA760, PA 720, PAIG 326) with four arboreum testers (PA 255, PA 402, PA 08, PA 528) were tested along with their parents including two checks (PKVDH 1, SWADESHI 651). The observations on five fiber quality traits were recorded on randomly selected five plants. Among ten parental lines, four lines were found to be the best general combiners. PA 760 and PA 255 showed good general combiner for 2.

The Microvirga zambiensis strain WSM 3693 is an endophytic strain isolated from saline area of kutch, Gujarat. The green fluorescent protein (GFP) was used to mark this endophyte in order to visualize and analyze the colonization processes in vivo. After inoculation for 2 to 15 d, it was visualized in cotton tissue using fluorescence microscopy.

A study on heterosis for seed cotton yield and fibre quality traits was carried out at Agricultural Research Station, Dharwad farm during kharif 2017. The material comprised of 28 intraspecific hybrids, their parents and standard check DHH-11 which were evaluated in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two replications. The analysis of variance indicated the presence of substantial variability among the experimental materials for yield and fibre quality traits.
