  • Pectin is a heterogeneous complex polysaccharide found in the primary cell wall of most cells. In this work, lowmethoxyl pectin was extracted from pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata). The obtained pectin was characterized by GPC FTIR and NMR spectra. The obtain results showed that structural feature of the pectin is a main chain of poly-α(1→4)- D-galacturonic acid and occasionally interrupted by α(1→2)-linked α-L-rhamnopyranose residues and branches Galp is linked to GalpA at C-2 position.

  • Nghiên cứu tiến hành đánh giá đặc điểm hình thái của 100 mẫu giống bí đỏ địa phương thu thập từ các tỉnh miền núi phía Bắc Việt Nam ở vụ Đông Xuân 2016. Kết quả đánh giá cho thấy 100 mẫu giống bí đỏ địa phương đều thuộc loài Cucurbita moschata và có sự đa dạng đáng kể trong trạng thái biểu hiện của các đặc điểm về thân, lá, quả và chất lượng thịt quả. Chiều dài lóng thân biến động từ 13,2 - 30,3 cm; chiều dài lá 21,7 - 39,8 cm, rộng lá 21,4 - 35,6 cm; chiều dài quả dao động từ 9,3 - 34 cm, đường kính quả 8,5 - 28,7 cm; số quả trung bình trên cây là 0,3 - 1,9; khối lượng quả 0,59 - 4,96 kg.

  • Value added dried pumpkin cubes and slices were prepared using ripe pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duch ex Poir). Prior to drying of pumpkin cubes and slices, different pretreatments (blanching, potassium metabisulphite (KMS) treatment, sulphur fumigation) were standardized and among them treatment involving steam blanching for 4 min + 1500 ppm KMS dip for 30 min was observed to be the best, retaining maximum nutritional characteristics and sensory scores.

  • The experiment was conducted at Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour, India to study the performance of twenty one pumpkin hybrids along with seven diverse parents. The analysis of variance revealed the presence of significant differences among the parents, hybrids and parents v/s hybrids which suggested high variability among almost all the fourteen traits studied.

  • The present study was carried out to evaluate the mean performance of pumpkin genotypes for growth, yield and quality attributes. Genotypes were collected from various places of North Eastern Region of India and laid out in Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The analysis of variance in the present investigation revealed significant differences among 25 pumpkin genotypes for all the studied traits. On the basis of mean performance, the genotype CHFPUM-24 (Landrace from Tripura) was found good for earliness and growth.

  • An investigation was carried out to study the performance of 18 hybrids of pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duch. ex Poir) through Line x Tester mating design. Observations were recorded on the traits viz., vine length, days to first female flower appearance, node number for first female flower appearance, sex ratio, days to first harvest, fruit number per vine, fruit weight, flesh thickness and fruit yield per vine, besides quality traits such as ascorbic acid content, beta carotene content and crude fibre content in the fruit.

  • The maximum number of fruits set was recorded in open-pollination + hand-pollination treatment (80.42% and 77.14%) and open-pollination (78.85% and 75.00%), followed by hand-pollination (65.42% and 61.42%) in C-1076 and C-1106 cultivar respectively. Without insect pollination treatment resulted in zero per cent fruit set in both the pumpkin cultivars (C-1076 and C-1106).

  • The present experiment was conducted to study correlation and path analysis for yield and quality traits of 28 genotypes. Significant variations were found among the genotypes for characters studied. The correlation coefficient analysis at genotypic level revealed that fruit yield per vine had positive and significant association with fruit number per vine (0.85), fruit weight (0.613), fruit equatorial diameter (0.53), ascorbic acid content (0.69) and crude fibre content (0.49).

  • Present investigation was carried out carried out at College of Horticulture, Dr. Y.S.R Horticultural University, Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh during kharif, 2016-2017. The experimental material comprised of 14 cultivars of (Cucurbita moschata Duch. ex Poir) pumpkin collected from different part of India. A wide range of variability was reported in all the characters. Higher magnitude of PCV and GCV were observed for placenta weight per fruit and flesh thickness indicating the existence of wide range of genetic variability in the germplasm for these traits.

The experimental material comprised of 14 cultivars of (Cucurbita moschata Duch. ex Poir) pumpkin collected from different part of India. Maximum gross returns, net returns and Benefit: cost ratios were observed in the cultivar Narendra Amrit and hence it can be concluded as the best cultivar among all the other cultivars.

  • An experiment was conducted to study the combining ability analysis using six parental genotypes and thirty hybrids of pumpkin obtained through full diallel analysis for yield and its attributing traits. The mean sum of square due to general combining ability (gca) and specific combining ability (sca) were significant for nodes to first female flower, days to harvest, fruit weight, fruit length, fruit diameter and number of seeds per fruit. The ratio of gca/sca was less than one for the character nodes to first female flower indicated the preponderance of dominance expression.

India in Zaid, 2016. The experiments were laid out in RBD with three replications having each experimental unit of single row with spacing of 3.0 m (R×R) × 0.5 m (P×P).
