  • The livestock survey of Jaffrabadi buffalo conducted in five districts of Saurashtra region of Gujrat state. The data collected from 1045 farmers through face to face interview from Amreli, Rajkot, Junagadh, Bhavnagar and Girsomnath districts as per farmer’s population 57, 21, 12, 6 and 4 %respectively.   • The study indicated that 46.67 per cent of the farmers belonged to old age group of above 45 years and were illiterate (36.70 %). Majority (51.70 %) of them had dairying and agriculture as their primary occupation and had more than 10 years of farming experience. Majority of the farmers had medium categories of cosmopoliteness and livestock possession (85.00 % and 68.33 %) respectively. The major constraints faced by the respondents were lack of awareness about latest technologies, scarcity of grazing land and water in dairy farming and lack of veterinary extension services at field level.

  • A bench mark survey was undertaken to find out the dairy animal management practices followed by the member farmers of dairy co-operative society in randomly selected three talukas of Rajkot district in Saurashtra region of Gujarat state. In each taluka five villages and in each village ten respondents were selected. It was observed that all the respondents milked their animals twice in a day by using wet knuckling method (98%) of milking – Majority of the milked produced generally goes to dairy co - operative society except the amount, which routinely used for family need.

  • The present study was conducted in Namakkal District of Tamil Nadu to analyse the perceived effectiveness of various dairy service delivery systems like dairy co-operative, private integrators, public departments, private veterinarians, para-veterinarians, etc. and their extent of share in delivering the dairy services to farmers. A total of 120 respondents were selected for the study by proportionate random sampling method and the data were collected by personal interview method using pre-tested interview schedule.

  • Livestock sector plays important role in Indian economy. The dairy industry can go a long way in augmenting the income of the farmers. The present paper focuses on the factors affecting farm income. The study was conducted in the two agroclimatic zones of Punjab state i.e. kandi and plain zone. From each zone two districts, one block from each district and further three villages from each block and fifteen farmers from each village were selected randomly. The data was collected with personal interview method. The annual income realized by farmers varied a lot in both the regions.

  • Metritis and endometritis are the very common postpartum uterine infections that results into infertility in dairy cattle, production loss and economical losses to the farmer. As postpartum uterus favors bacterial growth so it is frequently found in almost of unhygienic environment reared animals. Breaching of birth canal during dystocia, retention of placenta, wet environment during winter season and immunosuppression due to many reasons are the risk factors for the bacteria invasion to uterus.

  • The aim of the study was to document case studies of dairy based farmer producer companies in Kerala. The present study was purposively conducted in Kerala state. Locationally Kerala divided into three zones namely southern, central and northern. In all the zones there were 11 animal based farmer producer companies working. Among them 5 dairy based farmer producer companies were selected purposively i.e. one from northern, two from central and two from southern region.
