  • The present study was conducted in Rewari and Khol block of Rewari district Haryana, with the objective to know the socio-economic status of SHG members. The data on socioeconomic variables were collected from 90 respondents drawn from 30 SHGs. The study revealed that almost all the members were land less and found to belong to middle age group (35-46 years), married, practicing dairy as major occupation, small herd size and belonging to low income group.

  • This study assessed the empowerment of dairy women by developing an index by adopting a systematic procedure; seven dimensions under women empowerment were selected namely social, economic, psychological, cultural, political, legal and technological empowerment. The Normalised Rank Order Method was used for determining the scale values. These dimensions were ranked according to judges‟ perceived significance and proportions were calculated accordingly while determining the values for each, by Guilford table.

  • This study was conducted in the Karauli district of Rajasthan to assess the training needs of farmwomen engaged in dairy farming. It was found that the out of the five major farm operations studied, the farm women needed training the most in housing. The minor operations preferred the most for knowledge need were proper design of cattle shed, selection of breeds, compounding balanced feed using locally available ingredients, vaccination and banking and insurance.

  • In rural India, the percentage of women who depend on agriculture for their livelihood is as high as 84%.Apart from participation in actual cultivation; women participate in various forms of processing and marketing of agricultural produce. Women accounted for 93% of total employment in dairy production. To begin with training programmes were started to self-help groups (SHG) on labour saving equipment, processing, value addition and storage of grains followed by model processing units establishment in rural areas.   • A study was conducted in Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur to assess the problems faced by the trainees in utilizing knowledge gained in training programme. The respondents were purposively selected from the three training programmes conducted by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur, one each on dairy, goatery and poultry farming. As per the guidelines in every training programme under the KVK a minimum of 25 trainees consisting of farmer, farm women or rural youth should participate.

  • Role of women in Peri urban dairy farming was studied with respect to access and control over resources and services and constraints faced by them by collecting data from 60 respondents in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts of Odisha.   • The present study was conducted by keeping a concept in mind that dairy development is not feasible unless dairy farm women are trained in scientific dairy farming.
