This study was conducted to assess the toxicity of the sulfur mustard military chemical to the growth and development of zooplankton Daphnia magna. D. magna is a group of crustaceans which have unique features such as virgin reproduction/ parthenogenesis form in a short time, easy to identify and control toxic substances so they are usually used as a standard model organism for toxicity testing in aquatic environments.

Thifluzamide is a thiazole carboxanilide fungicide used to control a wide range of basidiomycete diseases on maize, potatoes, rice, and other crops. Although this fungicide is found in aquatic environments, there is no information about its acute and chronic toxicity on aquatic invertebrates. In the present study, to investigate acute and chronic toxicity of thifluzamide, daphnids were exposed to 1.25, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 mg/L thifluzamide for 48 h and 21 days, respectively.

Cyanobacterial blooms often consist of mixtures of microcystin-producing and microcystin-free species, and both can cause unpredictable effects on aquatic organisms. In this work, the subchronic effects of the cyanobacterial crude extracts (CCEs) from microcystin-producing and microcystin-free cyanobacteria with different microcystin concentrations (1, 10, and 50 µgL−1)on Daphnia magna were investigated. The life-history trait responses of D. magna to CCEs were determined based on survival, reproduction, and somatic growth.

This paper aimed at implementing a treatment system for polluted water with textile dyes, starting with a photocatalytic decomposition process using sunlight as a source of energy and continuing with a bacterial biodegradation process, in order to reach degradation percentages higher than those obtained using only one of the processes mentioned above. When water treatment with the dye in the combined system was over, an acute ecotoxicity test was performed to make sure that toxic metabolites were not produced due to biodegradation.

This study is aimed to examine whether the presence of non-toxic filamentous cyanobacteria can cause toxic effects on Daphnia magna. Six strains of Oscillatoria perornata were isolated from the Tri An Reservoir and cultured in our laboratory for investigation. The results revealed that all strains were negative with the mcyA moleculer marker.

In this study, the morpho-biological characteristics of the Daphnia magna Straus culture and microalgae of the genera Ankistrodesmus, Botryococcus, Scenedesmus, Chlorococcum and Chlorella were studied. Protein and fat storage of micronutrients was determined. It has also been found that when Daphnia magna cultures are propagated on the basis of micronutrients, their growth rate and biomass production.

Previous studies have shown that the crude ethanol extract and its ethylacetate fraction of the plant Eupatorium fortunei Turcz strongly inhibited the growth of a harmful freshwater cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa. However, the perspective of using these plant extracts as alternative algicides takes into account their potential risks to other species in aquatic ecosystems, including Daphnia magna.

In this study, we conducted a chronic toxicity assessment of di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) on the life history traits of Daphnia magna across three generations. In the first generation, the neonates (called F0 Daphnia) were raised in a control environment (C, toxin-free medium) or in a medium containing DEHP at three concentrations 5, 50, and 500 µgl-1, abbreviated as P5, P50, and P500, respectively. The offspring from the F0 control (called F1 Daphnia) were raised in toxin-free medium (denoted as C-C).

Harmful cyanobacterial blooms have become a global threat to human health and aquatic biota around the world. While the ecotoxicity of cyanobacterial toxins such as microcystins (MCs) has been studied extensively, the toxicity of non-toxin producing cyanobacteria has not been evaluated to the same extent. In this study, five strains of Microcystis wesenbergii were isolated from the Tri An reservoir and cultured under laboratory conditions. Microscopic observation was used for morphological identification. The MCs concentration was measured by highperformance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

Anthropogenic activities such as industrial production, mining, agriculture and transportation are among the main causes for the increase of trace metal concentrations in the environment, especially in water bodies. In this study, we evaluated the chronic impacts of lead (Pb) and arsenic (As) on Daphnia magna, a crucial organism to aquatic ecosystems, at several concentrations (0, 5, 25, 50, 150 and 250 µgl-1 of Pb and 0, 5, 25, 50 µgl-1 of As) for 21 days. Chất lượng nước hồ Xuân Hương trên cơ sở một số yếu tố vật lí, hóa học và sinh học được khảo sát vào tháng 4 (đại diện mùa khô) và tháng 7 (đại diện mùa mưa) năm 2013. Bên cạnh đó, độc tính sinh thái của loài vi khuẩn lam Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii phân lập từ hồ Xuân Hương cũng được đánh giá trên cơ sở phơi nhiễm với loài vi giáp xác Daphnia magna. Kết quả khảo sát, nghiên cứu đã cho thấy nước hồ đang bị phú dưỡng hóa và suy giảm nghiêm trọng. Sự ưu thế và bùng phát vi khuẩn lam là dấu hiệu không tốt cho các thủy sinh vật trong hồ. Microcystis is a bloom-forming, common cyanobacterium in Dau Tieng reservoir used for public water supply. To assess the presence of potentially microcystin-producing Microcystis, molecular techniques were conducted and acute toxicity bioassays were performed with the microcrustacean Daphnia magna exposed to cyanobacterial crude extracts. Potentially toxigenic of isolated strains was characterized by amplifying mcyD genes and identification of Microcystis was confirmed by 16S rRNA amplification.

Nghiên cứu này nhằm đánh giá độc tính của thuốc trừ sâu endosulfan lên sinh trưởng của giáp xác D. magna. Thuốc trừ sâu endosulfan là hóa chất bảo vệ thực vật họ clo hữu cơ, một nhóm chất hữu cơ bền, có khả năng gây rối loạn nội tiết, ảnh hưởng đến hệ thần kinh, gây các tác động xấu cho nội tạng và gây nguy hiểm cho con người. Nồng độ endosulfan được lựa chọn trong nghiên cứu này dao động từ 0 (mẫu đối chứng) đến 0,5 µg/l. Sau 48h phơi nhiễm, tỷ lệ chết của D. magna cao nhất đạt 97% ở nồng độ 0,5 µg/l. Giá trị LC50 ghi nhận tại thời điểm 48h là 0,129 µg/l.
