Circularly symmetric two-dimensional (2D) finite impulse response (FIR) filters find extensive use in image and medical applications, especially for isotropic filtering. Moreover, the design and implementation of 2D digital filters with variable fractional delay and variable magnitude responses without redesigning the filter has become a crucial topic of interest due to its significance in low-cost applications. Recently the design using fixed word length coefficients has gained importance due to the replacement of multipliers by shifters and adders, which reduces the hardware complexity.

Strength reduction leads to a reduction in hardware complexity by exploiting substructure sharing and leads to less silicon area or power consumption in a VLSI ASIC implementation or less iteration period in a programmable DSP implementation. Strength reduction enables design of parallel FIR filters with a lessthan-linear increase in hardware.

In this paper, the five-band notch filter was designed using MATLAB and implemented by the floating-point digital signal processor TMS320C6711 based on TI's DSP starter kit (DSK) board connected to the parallel port of the PC through the DB25 cable included with the DSK package. The original segment of symphony orchestra corrupted two undesired sinusoids at frequencies of 750Hz and 1750Hz is conduced to input of DSK to produce the corrupted input signal which is saved in the wave file (Corrupthandel.wav) for the digital signal processor. ...

Students learn in a number of ways and in a variety of settings. They learn through lectures, in informal study groups, or alone at their desks or in front of a computer terminal. Wherever the location, students learn most efficiently by solving problems, with frequent feedback from an instructor, following a worked-out problem as a model. Worked-out problems have a number of positive aspects. They can capture the essence of a key concept -often better than paragraphs of explanation. They provide methods for acquiring new knowledge and for evaluating its use.

Using ROM decomposition method of DA architecture we can reduce ROM size, however complexity of system design still exists. Hence to study DA architecture in FIR filter design a lower order filter is designed. Decrease in the order of the filter affects the frequency response of the filter, but it is time being neglected.

The magnitude and phase response of the designed filter is shown in Figure (1). The figure shows both reference filter response and response of the filter after coefficients have been quantized to fixed point representation. Order of the filter comes out to be 161 i.e. total 162 coefficients. Design of such a higher order filter is difficult task

Impulse response of the system characterizes the filter. Impulse response of the filter is always equal to the value of the filter coefficients. Thus if designed filter produces the filter coefficients as its output for impulse input then correctness of the filter design is verified.

Designed filter is excited with impulse signal. The first sample is assigned a value of one (impulse signal) and all other inputs from sample1 to sample7 are made zero. When ‘en’ signal is enabled filter starts the processing of accumulation of partial products. After N clock cycles, where N is the order of the filter
