The Neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros and the green-belly stink bug Dichelops melacanthus are the most important pests today for the succession system of soy-corn in Brazil. Dichelops melacanthus attacks the emerging shoot (epicotyl) of corn plants at the seedling stage of their development, remaining and reproducing on the straw over generations. Euschistus heros, on the other hand, feeds directly on the grains and lodge under fallen leaves after the soybean harvest, due to the absence of another crop host.

The aim of this study is to determine the effects of different doses of melatonin (MEL) applications (0, 5, 10 µM) on certain biochemical characteristics of strawberry seedlings grown in calcareous stress conditions. The experiment was conducted in the pots filled with lime-added mixture at the rate of 1% and peat perlite at the rate of 1:1 with frigo seedlings belonging to “Albion” strawberry cultivar.

The effects of zeatin, salicylic acid, and plant oligoadenylates on susceptibility of wheat seedlings to powdery mildew and the shape of dose-response curves for immunomodulation were studied. Salicylic acid and zeatin produced complex dose-responses with upregulation or downregulation of plant susceptibility. Under different experimental conditions, the dose-response curve for zeatin varied in shape from a curve with a maximum to a curve with a minimum of susceptibility to powdery mildew.

During maturation seeds acquire several physiological traits to enable them to survive drying and disseminate the species. Few studies have addressed the regulatory networks controlling acquisition of these traits at the tissue level particularly in endospermic seeds such as tomato, which matures in a fully hydrated environment and does not undergo maturation drying.

Phaius tankervilliae (L’Her.) Blume is one of the most attractive and horticulturally valuable ground orchids of the world. Due to illegal collection for trade and consumption and loss of habitat, the population of this species has decreased rapidly at an alarming rate in natural habitats. In vitro seed germination and seedling development of Phaius tankervilliae technique was successfully established...

The present study aims at evaluating the possible allelopathic potential of Moringa peregrine Forssk. on some growth attributes of two economically important food crops; Hordeum vulgare and Trigonellafoenum-graecum. The results indicate that Hordeumvulgareis more sensitive to Moringa peregrine leaves aqueous extract than Trigonellafoenum-graecum, and a concentration of 2.5% of that extract express the highest allelopathic effect on the degree of inhibition on seed germination of Hordeum vulgare.

A vertical cup with split base type metering mechanismwas developed for transplanting cell type nursery. The metering mechanism holds the nursery seedling, dig a hole in the soil at desired depth and releases the seedlings in the hole in near vertical position without any damage. The developed metering mechanism was evaluated in the laboratory for transplanting artificial nursery grown in trays having three different cell sizes 50, 98 and 105 cells/tray at three different feedrates i.e 50, 65 and 80 feeds per minute respectively forthree subjects.

Rhizoctonia solani causing sheath blight of rice is reported to survive through soil and collateral hosts. Although it infects seed in field, role of seed-borne inoculum in disease development is not properly understood. However, only little information is available on the role of seed-borne inoculum in disease development in the field (Roy, 1989; Acharya and Gupta, 1996; Silvalingam et al., 2006). During the present investigation seed samples of two varieties were collected from healthy seeds (i.e. seeds harvested from healthy plant panicles) and diseased seeds (i.e.

Sclerotium rolfsii is one of the most important soil-borne plant pathogen which cause severe loss at the time of seedling development. It also causes collar rot in several crops and wild plants. In this experiment, exposure of pathogen to different light period and pH in order to assess the mycelial growth and number of sclerotia of S. rolfsii was done. For the light experiment three plate continues dark, light and 12 hour interval.

Floriculture is an important agricultural sector of Lam Dong province and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The favorable climate conditions of Lam Dong province have led to the strong development of the floriculture sector, while high demand due to lifestyle changes in Ho Chi Minh City promises a potential market for the cut orchid industry. The adoption of modern technology is vitally important for small-scale producers because it not only improves the quality but also increases the yield of flower production.

Citrus tristeza virus, the most important viral disease of citrus, is reported in Assam and other NE states of India to infect Khasi mandarin (Citrus reticulata), the most economically important citrus crop of the region. For effective management, an attempt was made to identify a potential mild isolate against virus. Leaf samples were collected from Khasi Mandarin plants expressing differential symptoms from three different locations viz., Tinsukia, Golaghat and Mariani of Upper Brahmaputra Valley Zone of Assam. These were then grouped into three categories based on ELISA OD405 values.

Sheath rot disease caused by S. oryzae has emerged as one of the major diseases of rice inflicting yield losses ranging from 9.6 to 85% depending on the weather conditions. Pesticides are mostly used for its management and application of these chemicals over a long period may result in development of resistance, pesticide residue risk, health and environmental issues which necessitates an alternative economically feasible eco-friendly method for its management.

Salinity tolerance genotypes is useful to cross with high yielding existing varieties to develop high yield hybrid that can grow in saline soil and saline water conditions. The different species of Brassica namely, B. juncea, B. carinata, B. napus B. campestris var toria were screened for salt tolerance and tolerant genotypes were identified. Comparisons of Brassica species use to identify salinity tolerance species and screening individual genotypes of rapeseed-mustard. A total number of 281 genotypes consisting 225 B. juncea, 34 B. carinata, 18 B. napus, 4 B.
