This article presents the studying results of surveying 301 female diabetics about the request of their shoes into: shoe type, shoe kind and shape, the dimension and shapes of shoe’s details, the bottoming assembly method, the materials and the comfort of the shoes. The study results show that: popular shoes for female diabetics are open shoes, low-necked with Velcro, low heel from 20mm to 25mm, high toe spring from 10mm to 15 mm, and large, high and oval toe part.

The study evaluates the most important quality criteria of shoe material for patients with foot disease (durability, water vapor permeability, absorption, antibacterial activity) as a basis. The basis for selecting materials and processing high quality shoes is the necessary work.

Check inside shoes for foreign objects, torn lining, and proper cushioning. Improper or poorly fitting shoes are major contributors to diabetes foot ulcerations. Counsel patients about appropriate footwear. All patients with diabetes need to pay special attention to the fit and style of their shoes and should avoid pointed-toe and open-toe shoes, high heels, thongs and sandals. Assess the material and construction of footwear. Unbreathable and inelastic materials such as plastic should be avoided.
