Diaphragm forming

During the diaphragm forming process, a vacuum seal is applied between the upper and lower diaphragms to compact and hold the laminate. Therefore, a thorough characterization of the in-plane shear behavior of fabrics under diaphragm forming conditions must take into account the effect of vacuumsealing and compaction between the two diaphragms during bias extension.

A widely adapted form of laryngectomee speech is transcervical electrolaryngeal speech. A transcervical electrolarynx works by the user placing the vibrating diaphragm of the electrolarynx against his neck, the mechanical energy of the diaphragm is transmitted through the neck, exciting the air in the vocal tract; this excited air can be formed by the lips and mouth to yield speech. The limitations of modern devices are that they are cumbersome and unable to produce speech as natural sounding as human speech.

Nephrin is a signalling cell–cell adhesion protein of the Ig superfamily and the first identified component of the slit diaphragm that forms the critical and ultimate part of the glomerular ultrafiltration barrier. The extracellular domains of the nephrin molecules form a network of homophilic and heterophilic interactions building the structural scaffold of the slit dia-phragm between the podocyte foot processes.

The normal glomerular endothelial cell forms a barrier composed of pores of ~100 nm that hold back blood cells but offer little impediment to passage of most proteins. The glomerular basement membrane traps most large proteins (100 kDa), while the foot processes of epithelial cells (podocytes) cover the urinary side of the glomerular basement membrane and produce a series of narrow channels (slit diaphragms) to normally allow molecular passage of small solutes and water but not proteins.
