This study determined dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor of bamboo at different moisture contents and frequencies. The main purpose is to provide the dielectric properties of bamboo to determine the parameters of high frequency press technology.

This paper aims to improve the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm to estimate the complex relative permittivity of a metal-backed planar material sample placed in a free-space based on reflection measurement at X-band. The measurement system consists of a pyramidal horn antena operating at X-band and the material sample with the thickness is changed.

The reflection and transmission coefficients (S11 and S21) of planar material samples are determined using the proposed model. The complex permittivity and complex permeability are calculated from the values of S11 and S21. The proposed model is tested with different materials in the frequency range of 8.0 – 12.0 GHz. The results show that the more dielectric loss tangent, the more accuracy of complex permittivity. However, the complex permeability is slightly effected by the magnetic loss tangent.

In this paper, we present a method for determining complex permittivity of materials using two different thicknesses of the sample placed in free space. The proposed method is based on the use of transmission having the same geometry with different thicknesses with the aim to determine the complex propagation constant (γ). The reflection and transmission coefficients (S11 and S21) of material samples are determined using a free-space measurement system.
