  • Root system architecture, as a complex trait, has gained attention due to climate change and abiotic stress pressure on crops. The incorporation of root traits in breeding objectives may enable new advances in climate-resilient crops. Here, the genetics of the seedling root system architecture in the Synthetic W7984 × Opata M85 Doubled Haploid mapping population was investigated. Three traits at the seedling stage and mature stage root and shoot biomass traits were mapped for quantitative trait loci (QTL) identification.

  • The genus Adonis L. is a member of Ranunculaceae and consists of perennial and annual herbaceous plants included in the tribe Adonideae under the subfamily Ranunculoideae. Botanically, Ranunculaceae comprises vital medicinal plants. Molecular markers are one of the most effective tools for exploring genetic variation that can enhance breeding efficiency. To identify the genetic diversity of 62 Adonis ecotypes collected from different regions in Turkey, the interprimer binding site (iPBS) retrotransposon system was used.

  • There is a need to diversify CMS lines and restorer lines in different genetic background to create some variation and utilize them in hybrid breeding. Present research efforts were made to enhance the variability in CMS lines through conversion of dwarf four lines viz., Dwarf 30 cm, Dwarf 45 cm, Dwarf 60 cm and Dwarf 90 cm into cytoplasmic male sterility. Variation in the height of the parents will help in identifying the out crossed seeds from CMS and selfed-seeds from the hybrid populations.

  • The present study was conducted to evaluate the production performance of improved varieties like Gramapriya and Vanaraja under field condition in intensive system of rearing. Both the breeds were evaluated for production performance parameters like weekly body weight, feed consumption and feed conversion ratio from 0 to 8 weeks of age. Vanaraja birds showed significantly higher body weight than Gramapriya from 1 to 8 weeks of age. Feed consumption and feed conversion ratio showed no significant difference between the birds.

  • The objective of this work was to study the different breeding systems, seed viability and seed germination in four nerium Cultivars (Nerium oleander L.). Different breeding systems like natural open pollination, autogamy, controlled pollinations and geitenogamy were studied in two seasons. In both the season of pollination no fruit set was observed in autogamy. In case of natural open pollination both the season of pollination up to five per cent of fruit set was observed in nerium cultivars.

  • This article focuses and reviews on the seed enhancement techniques in oilseeds, and highlights of new developments that may provide even more benefits in the future. Oilseed crops are grown primarily for the oil contained in their seeds. Oilseeds are rich in protein, the proteins in oilseeds can be fed either as part of the oil-intact seed, or as a meal from which the oil has been removed. Major objectives in oil crop improvement are enhancement of seed and oil yield, quality of oil according to its use, i.e.

  • Hybrid breeding in Brassica juncea is suggested as the best strategy to boost rape seed mustard production in India. Diversified male sterile and restorer lines are required for a strong sustainable hybrid breeding programme. Knowledge about the inheritance of male sterile and restorer genes are essential for this. We studied the genetics of fertility restorer gene which can restore the fertility in three different male sterile systems(mori, eru and ber)in B.juncea using nine different BC1F1 populations.
