Different rice germplasm
-
The present investigation was carried out to estimate different genetic parameters in ricebean germplasm of NW Himalayas. Forty germplasm lines of rice bean were evaluated for yield and its components in Kharif, 2015 at the experimental farm of CSKHPKV, Palampur. High PCV and GCV was observed for seed yield/plant, plant height, pod length, pods/cluster and clusters/plant indicating the role of these characters for effective selection.

The present study was conducted at the experimental farm of ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, India in Kharif season 2016 with an objective to identify sheath blight and bacterial leaf blight disease resistance rice genotypes under submergence condition in middle Indo Gangetic Plain. The disease incidence was observed at maturity stages during Kharif season 2016. The incidence of sheath blight and bacterial leaf blight of paddy ranged from 18.6 to 39.0% and 15.3 to 34.0%, respectively.

Fifty bororice genotypes were evaluated to estimate variability, heritability and genetic advance in yield and yield contributing characters at Directorate of Rice Research Farm, ICRISAT Campus, Patancheru, Hyderabad, during Rabi 2013-14. Analysis of variance indicated the existence of significant genotypic differences among the genotypes for the yield, its components for all the characters. High GCV and PCV values were observed for number of filled grains per panicle, number of unfilled grains per panicle, grain yield per plant.

A glass house experiment was conducted at Department of Entomology, IGKV, Raipur (Chhattisgarh), during 2014-15 to evaluate different rice genotypes for brown planthopper (BPH) resistance. A total of 392 rice genotypes were evaluated, of which 58 were from IRRI, 78 were aromatic types and rest 256 represented the local germplasm. Of 58 rice genotypes from International Rice Research Institute six viz. Ptb 33 (0.17), IR 03A159 (0.45), IR 09N522 (0.66), IR 07A179 (0.67), IR 08N136 (0.90) and IR 09N538 (0.91), were found to be highly resistant to BPH while 32.7% were resistant.

For the establishment of the distinctness among 31 accessions of Oryza glaberrima, eight morphological traits following Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability test (DUS) studied. Out of 31 accessions studied, two accessions viz., EC861804, EC861805 were found to be highly distinct as they possessed distinct traits namely purple split ligule, medium green leaves, erect flag leaf, presence of awn along with lodging tolerance indicating their usefulness as donors for crop improvement programmes. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences for all the characters studied.

Laboratory experiments were carried out to study the biology of Sitophilus oryzae on four different wheat germplasms such as (DPW-62150, DBW-39, GW-322, and K-0307). It was found that the different developmental stages of rice weevil were longer during the winter season as compared to the summer season. As lowest incubation period of 3±0.47 days was recorded from DPW-62150 while the longest one from DBW-39 with 5.44±0.42 days.

Mungbean (Vigna radiata) is an economically important pulse crop and is an excellent source of easily digestible proteins with low flatulence which complements the staple rice diet in Asia and particularly in India. Information about mungbean germplasm diversity and genetic relationships among accessions or cultivars is of fundamental importance for breeding and the management of germplasm. To study genetic diversity at molecular level different types of DNA markers can be used.

The diversity of rice germplasm is the base of rice improvement programmes. Various agromorphological traits of five randomly selected plans were recorded for the evaluation of 36 green super rice germplasm. Analysis of variance indicated difference among genotypes were highly significant for the entire traits under studied, this indicated that these genotypes have sufficient amount of variation.

The present study was undertaken to find out the clustering pattern of 100 rice genotypes for 12 metric traits including five checks. Clustering of genotypes was done by following the method of Non Hierarchical Euclidean cluster analysis. All the genotypes were grouped into eight clusters revealing the presence of considerable amount of genetic diversity in the material for different studied traits. According to the results, Cluster V is having the largest cluster with maximum of 23 genotypes, followed by Cluster I (21 genotypes) and Cluster III (20 genotypes).

In the present study, sixty four aromatic landraces of rice collected from different districts of Madhya Pradesh were analysed for genetic variation using SSR markers. Specially, the objective of the study was DNA fingerprinting and genetic diversity analysis of aromatic landraces to requisite to study the unique feature and to identify the duplication among them and to assist in broadening the germplasm base of future aromatic rice breeding programs. Very high variation was observed for the trait sterile lemma colour in the classes of straw (76.56%), purple (10.94%), gold (7.81%) and 4.

Molecular analysis of 30 aromatic lines revealed presence of Xa4, xa5 and xa13 in twelve, two and five germplasm lines, respectively. Moreover, only xa5+xa13 gene combination was found to be present in two lines. Germplasm lines, ANP -44 (RAU 3073) and ANP-204 (Improved Pusa Basmati) showed presence of xa5 and xa13.
