Different sources of animals feed

Dried distillers’ grain (DDG) from rice-based alcohol factories contains relatively high protein (ca. 79% of dry matter). However, this vegetative protein source has only been used for animal feeding. To enhance the value of this by-product, i.e. toward application for the food industry, this study has applied different approaches for the enrichment of protein content in this by-products.

Contamination of feed materials with aflatoxins is an important issue due to both acute and chronic intoxication in animals and also harmful to humans. In the present study, 25 formulated cattle feed samples of different sources were collected from Tamil Nadu and analysed for moisture content, storage mycoflora including aflatoxigenic A. flavus and aflatoxin B1.

Assessment of genetic diversity using molecular markers is used for characterization of different genotypes with reliable and authentic results. RAPD is a PCR based molecular technique for identification of genetic variability in similar genotypes. It usually preferred for the initiation of this kind of work as this technique is simple, versatile and relatively inexpensive.

Organic milk producers usually begin as operators of conventional dairies that go through what can be a challenging and costly transition process. Many changes in such areas as animal husbandry, land and crop management, sourcing new and different inputs, and initiation of the certification process, among others, are required during transition. Diagrammes of the diges- tive system of ruminants in power-point slides as well as video clips on the digestion and absorption of different nutrients is also shown during the training. The session on animal feeding includes name, identification, class of feed, major sources of nutrients, i.e. energy and protein, dry matter content, palatability, digestibility, intake etc.
