  • One of the major effects of salt stress is high production of reactive oxygen species that adversely affect essential cellular metabolic pathways. To limit the elevated production of reactive oxygen species, plants stimulate various types of antioxidants. In this study, sulfur was used to induce tolerance against oxidative stress through modulation of the activities of various antioxidants. Two maize genotypes (Agatti 2003 and Pak Afgoi 2003) were subjected to different salinity (25 and 75 mM) and sulfur (40 and 80 mM) treatments and a control treatment.

  • Since ancient times, mushrooms have been considered as a special kind of food. Blue oyster mushroom is a novel species with very large fruit body, blue coloured pinheads becoming light white on maturity, high yielder, palatable with meaty flavour and attractive keeping quality. Different types of cereal grains i.e. maize, sorghum, bajra, wheat and paddy were taken to see their effect on spawn development and Different substrates i.e. wheat straw, paddy straw, mustard straw, sesamum straw and pigeon pea straw significantly influenced the spawn run period, pinhead initiation and yield of H.

  • Five maize lines prevalently used by breeders in the maize program were screened for their ability to form type II callus. Mature seeds were used as explant for in vitro culturing. One inbred line showed high embryogenic response and formed friable, type II calli and also exhibited successful plant regeneration. Ten culture media compositions based on Murashige and Skoog (1962) salts thus investigated differed with respect to the combinations of concentrations of auxins (IBA, NAA, picloram, 2, 4-D) and cytokinins (BAP, kinetin) were used.

  • Maize (Zea maize) is the 3rd most important cereal world in the world following wheat, rice. It is grown mainly in the semi- arid areas of the tropics and subtropics. Rice (Oryza sativa) is one of the main staples in the world and is cultivated mainly in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The exogenous application of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a NO donor, significantly alleviated the oxidative damage of salinity in seedlings of rice enhanced the seedlings growth and increased the dry weight of maize seedlings.

  • Molecular genetic markers correspond to highly potent source for the study of plant genomes and the association of inherited phenotypic traits with underneath genetic variation. Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNPs) are most abundant form of molecular genetic marker which represents a single nucleotide difference between two individuals at a defined location. Compare to others SNPs are direct sequence variation which offers the precise nature of the allelic variants among different genotypes. Further, it signify recurrent type of genetic polymorphism with high density genome coverage.
