Ebook "Introduction to plant pathology" introduces the eleven types of organism that cause plant disease, ranging from higher plants to viroids and describes examples of cash and staple crop diseases that have caused human catastrophes. Early chapters cover serological and molecular techniques for the diagnosis of plant pathogens, epidemiology, methods for estimating disease severity and its effect on crop yields and techniques for limiting inoculum.

Aquaporin-4 (AQP4) is in growing recognition as potential marker for cancer progression, differentiation and therapeutic intervention. No information is available about AQP4 expression in the normal canine brain. The aim of this histopathological study is to confirm the presence of AQP4 by immunohistochemistry technique in a group of non-pathological canine brains and to describe its expression and distribution across the brain.

The isolated bacterial strains, including the reference strain, were identified using ELISA, pathogenicity test and carbohydrate oxidation. Bacterial wilt is widely distributed in Benin and was found in five of the eight agro-ecological zones (AEZ) of Benin, which correspond to eight of the 12 districts of Benin.

People with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have an increased risk of falls. The foot is a common site of pathology in RA and foot problems are reported in up to 90 % of patients with established disease. The aim of this study was to determine whether foot and ankle characteristics are associated with falls in people with RA.

Fusarium wilt of chickpea is a widely distributed and the most destructive disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceri. The main objective of this experiment is to identify the effective Bacillus isolates against Fusarium oxysporium f.sp. ciceri under in vitro condition. A total of five Bacillus spp. isolates (TB1, TB2, TB3, TB4 and TB5) were isolated from rhizhosphere region of tomato and eight Bacillus subtilis isolates (BS4, B, KPB5, KK, BSD3, C1, G1, and B2) were collected from Department of plant pathology TNAU.

There is growing interest in utilizing artificial intelligence, and particularly deep learning, for computer vision in histopathology. While accumulating studies highlight expert-level performance of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) on focused classification tasks, most studies rely on probability distribution scores with empirically defined cutoff values based on post-hoc analysis.

With the aim to explore the anti-tumour effect of Withaferin A in DMBA (7,12- dimethylbenz[a]anthracene) induced mammary tumour in rats, seventy two female Sprague-Dawley rats were equally distributed to control, DMBA, tamoxifen and Withaferin A groups. Tamoxifen, which is widely used as first-line drug in the treatment of estrogen positive breast cancer was taken as standard for comparison. The study was conducted for a period of 16 weeks. DMBA (5 mg/rat/week/per os) at 4 weekly doses were used for tumour induction. Piloerection was noticed after DMBA administration.

The Atlantic little tunny, Euthynnus alletteratus, is widely distributed in temperate and tropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Black and Mediterranean Seas. In this study, wild-caught little tunny from Egypt, were found to be naturally infected with trypanorhyncha metacestodes, and the overall prevalence rate of infection was 38.7%. The blastocysts were either loosely attached to the mesentery of infected fish, or firmly attached and deeply embedded within the hepatic parenchyma.

Although numerous molecular changes have been reported in VSCC, biomarkers of clinical relevance are still lacking. On the other hand, there is emerging evidence on the use of mtDNA as a diagnostic tool in oncology.

Epidemiology G6PD deficiency is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical parts of the world (Africa, Southern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Oceania) (Fig. 101-5) and wherever people from those areas have migrated; a conservative estimate is that at least 400 million people have a G6PD-deficiency gene. In several of these areas, the frequency of a G6PD-deficiency gene may be as high as 20% or more.
