Ebook "Plant cell culture protocols (Third edition)" is taught around the world as part of undergraduate and graduate courses in agronomical and biological sciences. However, the apparent simplicity of cell culture technology should not lead to mistakingly consider it as trivial. It would be very diffi cult to understand modern plant biotechnology without in vitro cell cultures and even today, the application of recombinant DNA technology to important crops is hampered by the poor embryogenic or morphogenetic response of in vitro cultured tissues.

Ebook "Analytics of Protein–DNA interactions (Advances in biochemical engineering/biotechnology, Volume 104)" focuses on the fascinating possibilities that emerged during the last years to study protein–DNA interactions in vitro. As an essential part of transcriptional activity during development and in tumorgenesis a separate chapter describing the analysis of DNA modification especially methylation of cytosines at their carbon-5 position was included.

The human EGFR2 (HER2) signaling pathway is one of the most actively studied targets in cancer transformation research. Triplex-forming oligonucleotides (TFOs) activate DNA damage and induce apoptosis. We aim to encapsulate TFO-HER2 with nano-particle ZW-128 to suppress breast cell growth in vitro and in vivo.

Although a long-term goal of cancer therapy always has been the development of agents that selectively destroy cancer cells, more recent trends have been to seek secondary agents that sensitize cancer cells to existing treatment regimens.

The Cterminus of pUL21 in other members of this subfamily has RNA-binding ability; this domain contributes to pseudorabies virus (PRV) retrograde axonal transport in vitro and in vivo and participates in newly replicated viral DNA packaging and intracellular virus transport. However, knowledge regarding duck enteritis virus (DEV) pUL21 is limited.

Pseudorabies (PR) is latent and can persist in infected sows for a long time, and thus, convalescent sows can carry the virus throughout life, causing severe economic losses to farmers and posing a tremendous challenge to PR prevention and control. Here, to investigate the biological characteristics of pseudorabies virus (PRV), a variety of physical and chemical factors were analyzed under controlled conditions.

Inactivation of one X chromosome is established early in female mammalian development and can be reversed in vivo and in vitro when pluripotency factors are re-expressed. The extent of reactivation along the inactive X chromosome (Xi) and the determinants of locus susceptibility are, however, poorly understood.

DeRisi and colleagues present a creative application for Cas9 in vitro, using it to deplete unwanted sequence from DNA libraries. It seems plausible that the in vitro use of CRISPR/Cas9 has unrealized potential to revolutionize the practice of molecular biology well beyond genome editing.

Positional weight matrix (PWM) is a de facto standard model to describe transcription factor (TF) DNA binding specificities. PWMs inferred from in vivo or in vitro data are stored in many databases and used in a plethora of biological applications. This calls for comprehensive benchmarking of public PWM models with large experimental reference sets.

Free amino acids are found in spermatozoa and seminal plasma. Their qualitative and quantitative presence have been affected by many factors. Under in vitro storage conditions, their effects on spermatozoa in animal species and also human have been concerned over the last decades. In this study, the effects of tryptophan, phenylalanine and cysteine on DNA integrity, lipid peroxidation, viability and motility parameters in spermatozoa of the common carp (Cyprinuscarpio) were assessed during short-term storage.

A series of novel positional oximes (2a–2d), O-methyl oxime ethers (3a–3d), and O-benzyl oxime ethers (4a–4d) were synthesized in high yields starting from their corresponding methyl 3-, 4-, 6-, and 13-keto tetradecanoates. The synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR, mass, and elemental analyses for their structures and (E) /(Z) isomerizations. Their DNA binding abilities were investigated in vitro by agarose gel electrophoresis. The antibacterial and antifungal activities were tested also in vitro against eleven bacterial strains and three fungal strains.

The evidence for a complete cellular remnant removal was shown through Hematoxylin and Eosin staining and DNA measurements. The AAM powder was prepared by mechanical disruption under reduced temperatures, which resulted in an AAM particle size in the range of 100 mm. In vitro cytotoxicity testing via extraction demonstrated that AAM had no toxicity on human adipose derived stem cells (hADSCs).

The Cl replacement reactions of 4-fluorobenzyl(N/O)spirocyclotriphosphazene (2) with excess monoamines led to the formation of 4-fluorobenzylspiro(N/O)tetraaminocyclotriphosphazenes (2a–2d). The partly substituted dispiro 3b and dispiro 3c and fully substituted trispirocyclotriphosphazenes (trans 4a, cis 4c, 4d, and 4e) were obtained, respectively, from the reactions of 2 with one equimolar and two equimolar amounts of diamines, aminoalcohol, and diols.

2-Substituted 8-propargyloxyquinoline derivatives have been synthesized from 2-substituted-8-hydroxyquinolines by O-propargylation method (30%–98% yields). The newly synthesized compounds were tested for in vitro antioxidant activities such as DPPH radical scavenging, ferrous chelating, and reducing power activities. The maximum radical scavenging (46.5%) and reducing power activities were obtained from 1 and maximum ferrous chelating effect was obtained from 6 (72.1%) at the concentration of 500 µg/mL. To indicate DNA binding activity of the complexes calf thymus DNA was used.
