  • The article studies the occurrence of microplastics in the inlet and outlet wastewater streams at wastewater treatment plants in the Saigon-Dong Nai river basin, Vietnam and provide a suitable removal solution. The sampling method is suitable for the actual conditions of Vietnam combined with the application of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy to analyze the microplastic composition in the sample.

  • The author of the article uses EVI method for 4 indexes in the climate group of the sustainable development index to assess the vulnerability in 3 meteorological stations of Dong Nai river basin. Results show that the indexes of hot periods, cold periods and dry periods remain within safe limits when the vulnerability level is very low at level 1, but the wet periods are more vulnerable at level 3.

  • Recently, surface water of the Dong Nai river basin has been influenced by socio-economic development activities, so river water quality is reduced. The author used a number of methods such as collecting data, processing data, analyzing systems, and chart - map to assess water quality in the Dong Nai river basin based on the analysis of the measured values of 4 parameters as pH, BOD5, COD, DO, compared with QCVN 2015 for river water quality for 5 consecutive years from 2011 to 2015 with 12 monitoring points representing upper, middle and lower river.

  • This study aims to assess surface and groundwater availability in Dong Nai river basin by integrating SWAT and MODFLOW models. These models run individually and integrated through the recharge rates. The simulation results were then compared and showed good agreement with observed data. The results showed Tuyen Lam, Da Huoai and Dak Song districts are the locations which have high surface water availability, in the range of 40 - 50 l/s/km2 .

  • The research results show that the vulnerability index of the Dong Nai River basin in the province of Lam Dong is also spatially differentiated and in general, the value of the vulnerability index is at a moderate level (VI = 0.23). It is observed that the Vulnerability Index for the Dong Nai - Lam Dong River basin comes mainly from management challenges, followed by stresses due to resource use, pressure from development. Assessing the vulnerability of basin water resources is the basis for scientists to devise appropriate management solutions towards sustainable development.

  • In recent years, activities related to socio-economic development have led to land cover (LC) changes in the upper part of the Dong Nai river basin. The use of remote sensing applications to analyse the impacts of these changes plays an important role in the managing the sustainability of the river basin. This paper introduces a solution for analysing the impacts of LC changes on the water balance in the upstream catchment of the Dong Nai river in Lam Dong province. Landsat images were used for mapping and monitoring major changes over the last 20 years.

  • In recent decades, the increasing in greenhouse gas emission has caused global warming leading to many adverse changes of the environment especially the sea level rise and the hydrological regime. The Dong Nai river basin having the downstream part below the sea level is among the most vulnerable basins to climate change. Recents studies showed that the sea level in the downstream of Sai Gon - Dong Nai river basin is rising. Many cities downstream of the basin especially Ho Chi Minh city are being flooded in flow tides which seriously affect the socioeconomic development.

  • Climate change (CC) is a global problem that not only affects the developed countries but also the developing ones as Vietnam. With a coastal line of approximately 3,260 km, Vietnam is expected to be affected considerably by climate change including salinity intrusion. Through the assessment of impacts of climate change on water resource in Hong-Thai Binh and Dong Nai river basins which located in two key economic zones, in the paper a general picture of impacts of climate change on salinity intrusion in Vietnam is presented, where MIKE 11 was used for Hong – Thai Binh basin and HydroGIS...

  • Climate change (CC) is one of the most significant challenges facing human beings in the 21st century. CC will seriously affect lives, production and environment worldwide. It also leads to the increasing temperature and one of its consequences is sea level rise, resulting in unpredicted changes of the river flow. This may cause more severe floods, serious drought and water shortage, further to continent of the salinity intrusions and negatively effect on the human’s lives, socio-economic development.

  • Beside the effect of gravitational forces, the water level in Sai Gon-Dong Nai River System is also affected by non gravitational forces such a wind, air pressure, rainfall and sea level rise. The purpose of this paper is to simulate the water level of these river based on the tidal and non-tidal constituents, from that assess the role of non-tidal constituents to water variation. In this study, the none-tidal data used includes the wind field at surface, sea level pressure and the rainfall in Sai Gon- Dong Nai Basin. With the analyzed data series from 1980 to 2007, the results...
