Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are a new blooming carbon containing nanoparticles having size of less than 10 nm. They have wide range of application in the field of sensing of inorganic analytes, bio sensing, cell imaging, studying biological processes in living cells and also for drug delivery. T. In this review article we demonstrate how these tools are used to characterize newly synthesized CQDs, monitor the synthesis process along with finding its application in numerous fields.

Carbon dots (CDs) are zero dimensional carbonaceous nanomaterials showing tremendous physicochemical and optical properties, synthesized from any organic precursors rich in carbon content. Due to their greater biocompatibility, non-toxicity, and tiny particle size up to 10 nm, CDs have numerous applications in the field of nano-sensing, bio-imaging, solar energy, light-emitting devices, photo-catalysis etc.

In this study, colloidal CdS quantum dots were synthesized, structurally characterized, and their effect on performance of perovskite solar cells was observed by using them as interface modification agent between TiO2 /perovskite. Colloidal CdS quantum dots were synthesized based on two-phase method and characterized by X-ray diffraction and Transmission Electron Microscopy techniques. The average particle size of CdS quantum dots have found to be around 5 nm. Oleic acid was used as capping agent during synthesis to lead solubility in organic solvents.

Nitrogen-doped carbon nanodots (CDs) were prepared via the solvothermal method, using urea and triethylene glycol as the starting materials. The as-prepared CDs had individual diameters of approximately 100 nm and were in clusters of different sizes. The surface composition and optical properties of the as-prepared CDs were characterized. They exhibited multicolor emission properties in the visible range when excited with a wide wavelength range. The aqueous solution of the CDs was used in highly sensitive tartrazine determination.

Selection of tractor and implements has been very important aspect in farm mechanization because of availability of variety of tractor models ranging from 15 to 75 kW and variety of implement sizes in the market. The main purpose of the study was to develop a computer based decision support system which could be able to predict the size of tractor required for an implement and vice-versa for a selected soil type and soil conditions. The decision support system was developed in visual studio platform using visual basic dot net programming language as front end MS Access as backend.

The binding energy of exciton in quantum dots with a parabolic confinement potential was calculated by variational methods beyond the Kohn-Luttinger effective mass theory, when the central-cell correction was taken into account. We have assumed that a short range potential with two parameters for strength and range for exciton, representing the center-cell effect also depends on dot size. Our result is in good agreement with experiment.

Single electron transistor (SET) is a key element in current research area of nanoelectronics and nanotechnology which can offer nano-feature size, low power consumption and high operating speed. SET is a new nanoscale switching device. It can control the motion of the single electron. The goal of this paper is to discuss about some physical properties of the SET and focuses on simulation of basic quantum device characteristics such as tunneling effect, Coulomb blockage, Quantum dot, Coulomb staircase, and Coulomb oscillation.

In this paper we present the construction of a highly sensitive FCS instrument and the measurement results from a sample of semiconductor quantum dots. We provide the analysis procedure for determining the hydrodynamic radius of the quantum dots and compare the results with the ones obtained directly from electron microscope imaging. The good agreement indicates the reliability of the FCS technique and open the way for further applications of this technique in studying nanoparticles.

In this work, we present a facile and environmentally friendly synthesis of CQDs based on plasma - liquid interaction method. This is a single-step method and does not use toxic chemicals. The size distribution of obtained CQDs is rather uniform at approximately 3 nm. The emission peak of CQDs shifts from 427 nm to 523 nm as the excitation wavelength is varied from 340 nm to 460 nm. The non-equilibrium reactive chemistry of plasma liquid interaction is responsible for acceleration of the CQDs formation process.

IF you look at a Map of the World, you will see, in the left-hand upper corner of the Eastern Hemisphere, two Islands lying in the sea. They are England and Scotland, and Ireland. England and Scotland form the greater part of these Islands. Ireland is the next in size. The little neighbouring islands, which are so small upon the Map as to be mere dots, are chiefly little bits of Scotland, - broken off, I dare say, in the course of a great length of time, by the power of the restless water.

In this article, we report on the preparation of CdSe quantum dots (QDs) by sol-gel method and their optical properties. The average size of QDs is also estimated by using various ways, such as the Scherer’s formula, The Effros-Brus-Kayanuma’s theoretical expression, TEM etc. The TEM images of samples show that the mean sizes of QDs are 4 nm. The mean sizes of QDs are smaller than that of other methods and arranging from 2 to 3.6 nm.

QDs play an important role mainly in the imaging and as highly fluorescent probes for biological sensing that have better sensitivity, longer stability, good biocompatibility, and minimum invasiveness. The fluorescent properties of QDs arise from the fact, that their excitation states/band gaps are spatially confined, which results in physical and optical properties intermediate between compounds and single molecules. Depending on chemical composition and the size of the core which determines the quantum confinement, the emission peak can vary from UV to NIR wavelengths (400–1350 nm).

Cd1-xMnxS nanoparticles (NPs) with size quantum confinement belong to the diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) quantum dot (QD) class of materials that has been widely studied in the last few years. The study of quasi-zero-dimensional Diluted Magnetic Semiconductors (DMS), such as Cd1-xMnxS Quantum Dots (QDs), is strongly motivated due to the localization of magnetic ions in the same places as the free-like electron and hole carriers occurring in these nanomaterials [1,2].
