In this research, Ag-Ag3PO4/Cellulose aerogel composite was synthesized using hydrothermal reduction and freeze-drying methods. By combining the photocatalytic activity of the semiconductor AgAg3PO4 and cellulose aerogel synthesized from agricultural waste sources, the synthesized Ag-Ag3PO4/Cellulose aerogel composite has overcome the disadvantages of pure Ag3PO4 and significantly improved the photocatalytic activity.

The effect of machining parameters on the surface roughness in dry-turning Ti6Al4V alloy using an experimental design method was investigated. A mathematical equation based on the response surface methodology was established to fully understand the influence of machining parameters (cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut) on the surface roughness.

The thesis is structured as follows: Chapter 1 reviews the literature and outlines the importance of blood, clinical use of blood, current methods of blood collection including alternative methods and the benefits of DBS. Chapter 2 summaries the overall methods used in the project. Chapter 3 explains the utility of hemaPEN® from both the collection and analytical perspective. Chapter 4 expands on the HCT bias associated with standard DBS method. Chapter 5 expands on the use of DBS in other fields such as genomic and epigenomics.

The procedure for determination of 238 U, 234 U, 232 Th, 230 Th and 228 Th nuclides by alpha spectroscopy was developed. Nuclides of uranium (U) and thorium (Th) were separated from the soil samples by chromatographic method. In the medium of 8 M nitric acid, U(VI) and Th(IV) were adsorbed on the Dowex 1 anion resin column. However, U(VI) was eluted from column by increasing the used volume of 8 M nitric acid. Th(IV) was eluted from the column with 50 ml HCl 9 M.

Hydrogels composed of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), polyethylenglycol (PEG) and kappacarrageenan (KC) were prepared by radiation crosslinking method. The equilibrium water absorption of hydrogel PVP/KC (A) and PVP/PEG/KC (B) were 45 and 85 g(H2O)/g dried gel, respectively. The n values of the equation Mt /M = ktn were determined to be of 0.6396 for hiđrogel A and 0.9984 for hydrogel B. The water transport mechanism follows the fickian diffusion for hydrogel A, while relaxation diffusion is dominated for hydrogel B. The water vaporization of hiđrogels was also investigated.

The comparative study of the content and structure characteristics of fucoidans from five Sargassum brown seaweed species in the south provinces of Vietnam was conducted. The yield of fucoidans was ca. 4% (w/w) based on dry seaweed. The percentage of sulfate and uronic acid content was determined by Scott method. Shikimic acid is an important product in the synthesis of the anti-influenza drug osseltamivir phosphate. LC-MS method was applied for the determination and quantification of shikimic acid from Vietnamese star anis (Illicium verum Hook.f.). Using the instrument system LC/MSD Agilent series 1110, separation was performed on a Zorbax SB-C18 RP (3.0x150 mm) column with water containing 0.1% formic acid and methanol as mobile phase. Analytes were detected both by DAD at 210 nm and by MS detectors.
