  • The experimental material consisted of six generations (P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2) obtained from two crosses of rice using three parents laid out in a randomized block design with two replications to study the generation mean analysis for ten characters viz., days to flowering, plant height, number of tillers per plant, number of productive tillers per plant, panicle length, number of filled grains per panicle, total number of grains per panicle, 1000 grain weight and single plant yield.

  • The nature and magnitude of gene action was analysed using six generations viz., P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 for yield and yield contributing characters in four inter varietal crosses of okra. The scaling and joint scaling tests indicated the presence of epistatic gene effect for all the characters in four crosses. Duplicate epistasis was predominant in most of the yield and yield attributing characters in all the four crosses except number of fruits per plant, which showed complimentary epistasis.

  • Hybridization was carried out between highly resistant genotype Meha and four susceptible genotypes viz., Pusa Vishal, GJM-1006, GM-4 and GJM-1008 to deduce genetics of Mungbean Yellow Mosaic Virus (MYMV) resistance in mungbean. Parents, F1s, F2s and F3 progenies were evaluated for their response to MYMV infection utilizing highly susceptible variety GM-4 as an infector row keeping one row of GM-4 after every two rows of parents, F1s, F2s and F3 progenies.

  • The adequacy of different genetic models and nature and magnitude of gene effects responsible for the expression of seed yield and important yield contributing characters were studied in mustard. 6 generations of two crosses viz; MRNJ 88-1 X JMWR 9081-1 (Family A), MRNJ 131 X JMWR 9081-2 (Family B) sown in Compact Family Block Design were investigated.

  • The present investigation was undertaken with a view to generate genetic information on gene effects for 14 quantitative traits in brinjal through generation mean analysis. The experimental material consists of six generations, namely P1, P2, F1, F2, B1 and B2 of four crosses in brinjal viz., AB-15-07 x GJLB-4 (cross 1), JBR-14-07 x Pant Rituraj (cross 2), NSR-01 x Swarnmani Black (cross 3) and NBR-14-05 x GJB-03 (cross 4). The results indicated that the magnitude and type of gene effects differed for the same trait in different cross combinations.

  • Generation mean analysis study in cowpea was undertaken to estimate the gene action operating in the inheritance of yield and its components using six basic generations viz. P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 of two different crosses namely PGCP-63 X Pant Lobia-1 and Pant Lobia-3 x Pant Lobia-1 were studied. For most of the studied traits, additive, dominant, additive x additive, additive x dominance and dominance x dominance were significant. Additive effect significantly contributed for number of pods per plant and 100 seed weight.
