With the impact of global climate change, saline intrusion into surface water in coastal areas has become a major issue. The water treatment using surface water in these areas has to deal with double issues including organic matters and salinity. This paper evaluated the trihalomethanes formation during the treatment of surface water at pilot scale using different disinfection dose and at different salinity levels.

This paper investigates the effects of economic sanctions (ES) on global banking flows (GBF) using 4,022 pairs of 207 countries during the period 1995-2018. We use a structural gravity model combined with the rich Global Sanction DataBase introduced by Felbermayr et al. (2020, 2021). ES include various forms of sanction, including arms, trade, financial, travel, and other sanctions, whereas GBF reflect cross-border lending. Our empirical results show a negative association between ES and GBF. The heterogeneous effects of ES on GBF depend on the types of sanctions.

The paper conceptualizes rurbanization to bridge the gap in the research that emanates from the propensity of urban megapolises to create clutter, which results in degraded ecology, air pollution, health hazards, lower quality of life, gender inequity, and vulnerability to natural disasters. This paper deals with the problem of handling semantic heterogeneity during schema integration. We present an approach on the basis of formal ontologies presented in a logical language to identification of relationship between different local schemas. Semantic similarity relations between definitions in formal ontologies are defined, verified and used for merging formal ontologies. It is found that the result of the merging process can be used for global schema generation.
