Dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) integrated with a piezoelectric stack energy harvesting subjected to base excitation is introduced in this paper. The system of dynamic vibration absorber and piezoelectric stack energy harvesting system (DVA-PSEH) has two functions, the first is to reduce vibrations for the primary system, and the second is to convert a part of the vibrational energy into electricity through the piezoelectric effect.

This paper presents three analytical methods to determine optimal parameters of the passive mass-springdisc dynamic vibration absorber (DVA), such as the ratio between natural frequency of DVA and shaft, damping ratio of DVA. The original model presented by Den Hartog, Luft and Warburton are solved and has shown in good agreement. Three analytical methods is then adopted for torsional shaft model.

In this present paper, the road profiles are generated according to the ISO 8606:2016 standard to compare the differential of the road profile when changing the conditions. The semi-active suspension techniques are the solution to this problem and capable of reducing road vibrations effectively. The vertical quarter car model is installed with semi-active suspension system using Electrorheological shock absorber (ER damper) also considered to study the response of the vehicle to the road profile.

This paper presented a method to reduce the torsional vibration of a shaft system with dynamic vibration absorber (DVA). A theoretical method was introduced to determine optimal parameters of the DVA, which included spring stiffness, viscous coefficient of damper, mass moment of inertia of the absorber, number, and radial position of springs and dampers. First, system equations of motion of the shaft and the DVA were elaborated using Finite Element method (FEM) and solved by Runge-Kutta algorithm to find the torsional vibration response.

The performance of the proposed optimal DVA is compared with that obtained by existing optimal solution in literature. It is shown that the proposed optimal parameters are possible to obtain superior vibration suppression compared to existing optimal formula. Extended simulations are carried out to examine the performance of the optimally designed DVA and the sensitivity of the optimum parameters. The simulation results show that the improvement of the vibration performance on damped rotary system can be as much as 90% by using DVA.

The dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) has been widely applied in various technical fields. Using the Taguchi’s method, this paper presents a procedure for designing the optimal parameters of a dynamic vibration absorber attached to a damped primary system. The values of the optimal parameters of the DVA obtained by the Taguchi’s method are compared by the results obtained by other methods.

The paper presents a design of an active massspring-inverted pendulum DVA for the inverted pendulum type structure in case the external force is white noise process. The design is based on the optimum passive DVA as carried out in [4] and apply the optimum control force by minimizing the performance index.

In practice, an inverted pendulum can be used to model many real structures as the arms of robots, soil structures, or fluid structures. However, the study on the design of dynamic vibration absorber for inverted pendulum structures is very limited in the literature.

The first edition of the Shock and Vibration Handbook in 1961 brought together for the first time a comprehensive survey of classical shock and vibration theory and current applications of that theory to contemporary engineering practice. Edited by Cyril M. Harris and the late Charles E. Crede, the book was translated into several languages and became the standard reference work throughout the world. The Second Edition appeared in 1976, the Third Edition in 1988, and the Fourth Edition in 1996.
