Earth station design

This paper introduces a new approach, in which a LNA has been designed using the FR-4 material, a common, low-cost substrate in PCB fabrication. The proposed LNA will maintain the quality of all of the important parameters such as gain, noise figure in compared with the LNAs designed by high cost material substrates.

This study presents an hourly updated assimilation and model forecast system (Rapid Refresh - RAP) designed for rainfall nowcasting at Ho Chi Minh city (named HCM-RAP). The HCM-RAP implemented the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, driven by Global Forecast System (GFS) data at horizontal resolution of 0.25x0.25 degree, in combination with rapid update of radar data at Nha Be station.

All communications with a geostationary satellite require using an earth station or antenna. Earth Stations may be either fixed (installed at a specific location) or mobile for uses such as Satellite News Gathering (SNG) or maritime applications. Antennas range in size, from large telecommunications carrier dishes of 4.5 to 15 meters in diameter, to VSAT antennas which can be as small as under one meter, designed to support services such as Direct to Home TV (DTH) and rural telephony.

DEVELOPMENTS The aim of this chapter is to discuss briefly possible developments of VSAT future technology. The introduction of this book emphasised the fact that VSAT networks are part of the historical evolution of earth station technology towards a reduction insize and cost. From the link analysis developed in Chapter 5, it has become clearthat this evolution was possible thanks to the availability of satellite transponders with high EIRP and G/r.
