Eco-friendly crop management

Cereals and legumes are largely grown under harsh rainfed conditions in India, which is further complicated by climate change and climate variability. Tropical drylands are experiencing deficit rainfall over the years. Due to this, agricultural production is affected in arid and semi arid regions. There is an urgent need to find low cost, ecofriendly, sustainable solutions to manage crop productivity under rainfed situations to help resource poor small and marginal farmers in particular. Plant microbiome interactions offer plants to tide over adverse conditions viz.

Field experiments were conducted in farmers holding during 2017-19 in view to develop ecofriendly strategies for the management of white grub in sugarcane crop. Various bio inoculants with required dose per hectare were prepared and multiplied in well decomposed farm yard manure of 50 kgs and mixed with 2500 kgs of decomposed FYM at the time of application for easy handling and applied near root zone during earthing up (during May/June).

Pesticidal residues due to excessive or spurious use of chemicals become one of the curses of modern agriculture. This detrimental effect of chemicals brings the urgent need of ecofriendly and health hazard free sustainable agriculture. Indigenous technological knowledge (ITK) can play an important role in organic agriculture more particularly in pest and disease management of agricultural crops.

The vegetables now become a crucial requisite of the daily human diet, because of its nutritional value. The present investigation was conducted in four tribal district of Madhya Pradesh. Total sixteen villages were selected for the study. There was proportional to total size of the respondents in selected villages fell under each of the four blocks. In all, 240 tribal farmers were selected to serve as the respondents for the study. Higher percentage (49.17) of the respondents had medium adoption about eco friendly practices.

Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) is one of the most important vegetable cultivated all over India. This crop is infected by many diseases and the most important disease reported in this crop causing yield loss about 90-100% is collar rot caused by Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. Biological control of soil borne plant pathogen is gaining much importance due to its ecofriendly, economic and being harmless to non target organism in nature.

Nano-particles have wide potential in plant disease diagnosis and as an ecofriendly mode of disease management. Nano-scale platforms, biological sensors, miniature detection devices and nano-sensors could play a significant role in pathogen detection and disease management in the future. In this article various nano-particles utilized in disease management and the possibility of large scale adaptability of nano-particles by integrating into present practices and avoiding crop losses reviewed.

The main aim of the study was to reduce the maximum use of pesticides, these pesticides increases pest resurgence, environmental pollution and toxic residue in food. Efforts were being made to encourage those pest management practices which are ecofriendly. Pooled mean of both the years during 2016 and 2017 revealed that minimum population of leafhopper nymphs was recorded in cotton intercropped with bajra as border crop (2.47 nymphs/leaf) and maximum population was recorded in sole cotton (3.54 nymphs/leaf).

Onion is one of the largely cultivated vegetable throughout India and grown as kitchen garden crop in Himachal Pradesh. The bulbs as well as seeds of crop are used in a variety of culinary preparations and holds high nutritive and medicinal value. The commercial cultivation of onion is very successful because of its high demand and market value. The major constraint faced in the cultivation of onions is the incidence of biotic and abiotic factors.

Various methods are used to manage phytonematodes under field conditions. Use of chemicals to manage phytonematodes in various crops is very popular among farmers. But these chemicals are not ecofriendly. Various bio-control agents are found promising against root-knot nematodes. Therefore to study the effect of different bio-agents for the management of Meloidogyne spp. in papaya nursery, application of Pseudomonas putida, P. fluorescens, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, B. pumilus, B. subtilis, B.

The effect of optimized dosage of bio-agents as soil application and as sucker treatment for the management of root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita and spiral nematode, Helicotylenchus multicinctus in banana was studied under field condition. Application of Pseudomonas fluorescens 100g as soil application resulted in 68% reduction of root knot nematode and spiral nematode populations over control. The P. fluorescens soil treatment also recorded enhanced the plant height (274.0 cm), number of leaves (14.0/plant), pseudostem girth (55.9 cm) at 270 days after planting.
