Education for women is the best way to improve the health, nutrition and economic status of a household that constitute a micro unit of a nation economy. In this context, it can be argued that lack of women education can be an impediment to the country’s economic development. In India, women achieve far less education that of men. As per the Census Report 2011, the literacy rate of women is 65.46 per cent and that of men is 82.14 per cent. The Union Government has expanded “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” (BBBP) programme from 161 districts to all 640 districts of the country.

Pig farming is dispensable to the tribal folks of Manipur, India. In this study, we tried to establish baseline information on the socio-personal and socio-economical status of small scale tribal pig farmers in the state. Altogether, 400 tribal pig farmers, rearing ≥ 2 pigs were selected randomly and interviewed from 4 blocks of Senapati district, Manipur. The study showed that majority of tribal pig farmers (69.75%) belonged to middle age groups (31-50 years), followed by 19.25% young age groups (up to 30 years), and 11% old age groups (> 50 years), respectively.

Gender Empowerment has been a highly focused area over three decades to empower women so that they can be made free from the mettle of exploitation, deprivation, and social impoverishment. The study aimed to identify the social and demographic factors affecting the economic status of farm households in West Bengal. The results of multivariate approaches like Exploratory Factor Analysis revealed that household size, age group, farm size, gender, labour force participation rate, occupation and education were identified as key variables based on the highest factor loadings of each factor. The present study was undertaken to study thesocio-economic status of Khadia Chicken rearers along with phenotypic characteristics Khadia Chicken in two tribal districts of Northern Odisha. The sample size constituted two hundred households rearing 1435 Khadia chicken. Studies have consistently shown that birthweight decreases steadily with decreasing social status. 25 Figure 1 shows this decrease in birthweight between the most privileged and the most deprived socio-economic groups among babies born in 2000 enrolled in the UK Millenium Cohort Study. Mothers living in the most privileged socio-economic group had an average birthweight 200gm heavier than those living in the most disadvantages households (workless households).

The Wisconsin Family Health Survey (FHS) collects information about health insurance coverage, health status, health problems and use of health care services among Wisconsin residents. This survey began in 1989 and has been conducted annually since then. This report is based on responses collected in 2008, the same year that the BadgerCare Plus health insurance program was implemented (February 2008).
