Effective elastic moduli

Xem 1-8 trên 8 kết quả Effective elastic moduli
  • The viscoelastic model results from a homogenization procedure in which the Mori-Tanaka scheme is applied in the Laplace-Carson space for estimating the effective linear viscoelastic bulk and shear moduli of the material. A concrete material made of a linear viscoelastic matrix described by a generalized Maxwell model and containing distributed spherical elastic inclusions and pores is adopted as a simplified representation of the material under consideration.

  • n this work, some popular analytic formulas such as Maxwell (MA), Mori-Tanaka approximation (MTA), and a recent method, named the Polarization approximation (PA) will be applied to estimate the elastic moduli for some porous media. These approximations are simple and robust but can be lack reliability in many cases. The Hashin-Shtrikman (H-S) bounds do not supply an exact value but a range that has been admitted by researchers in material science. Meanwhile, the effective properties by unit cell method using the finite element method (FEM) are considered accurate.

  • Numerical finite element simulations on the homogenization problem for large samples of particular 2D hexagonal-shape-geometry random orientation aggregates from the base crystals of orthorhombic symmetry have been performed. At sufficiently large random-aggregate samples, the scatter intervals of the macroscopic 2D bulk and shear elastic moduli converge toward the Voigt-Reuss-Hill bounds, and then our recently constructed theoretical estimates, which have been specified for the aggregates.

  • In this paper, we focus specially on the effective elastic moduli of the heterogeneous composites with arbitrary inclusion shapes. The main idea of this paper is to replace those inhomogeneities by simple equivalent circular (spherical) isotropic inclusions with modified elastic moduli. Available simple approximations for the equivalent circular (spherical) inclusion media then can be used to estimate the effective properties of the original medium.

  • In the present study, we developed a formalism based on the statistical moment method (SMM) for pure ceria crystal using the Bukingham potential for investigation of the lattice constant and elastic moduli of yttria-doped ceria crystal including the anharmonicity effects of thermal lattice vibrations. The lattice constant and elastic moduli are calculated as functions of the dopant concentration, temperature and pressure. Our results predict that the lattice constant and elastic moduli decrease rapily with the pressure in agreement with experimental results (in the case pure ceria).

  • A novel approach to predict the effective elastic moduli of matrix composites made from non-circular inclusions embedded in a continuous matrix is proposed. In this approach, those inhomogeneities are substituted by simple equivalent circularinclusions with modified elastic properties obtained from comparing the dilute solution results.

  • Construction of bounds on the elastic moduli of isotropic multicomponent materials which involve three-point correlation parameters. We use numerical methods to study several representative material models. Construction of three-point correlation bounds on the effective elastic shear modulus of composite materials and applications of the bounds are given to some composites.

Understanding the effect of thickness on the mechanical properties of these films is crucial for their applications. However, it is a great challenge to measure their elastic modulus experimentally with in situ heating.
