Field studies were conducted on application of zinc and boron to summer rice crop on Alfisols at Naganahalli village, Mysore district, Karnataka. The results showed that external application of zinc as ZnSO4 @ 20 kg ha-1 and boron as borax @ 4 kg ha-1 significantly enhanced the plant height number of tillers hill-1 , grains per panicle, thousand grain weight, grain yield and straw yield of paddy. Further there was significant increase in major (N, P and K), secondary (S, Ca and Mg) and micronutrient (Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn and B) status of soils.

The experiment was carried out to explore correlation and path coefficient analysis in 48 rice genotypes for nine characters viz., days to first flower, plant height, number of tillers per plant, number of panicles per plant, number of grains per panicle, panicle length, thousand grain weight, grain L/B ratio and grain yield per plant. The genotypic correlation coefficients showed higher magnitude than phenotypic correlation coefficients which indicated masking or modifying effect of environment.

A field trial was conducted to investigate the effect of spatial distribution and different levels of nitrogen on growth of hybrid rice variety PA 6201, comprising of 16 different treatments using randomized complete block design with three replications at agronomy research farm of Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Faizabad (U.P.), India during the season of Kharif in the year 2012. It was found that the spacing of 20×15 cm was found significantly superior over other geometric configurations and at par with closer spacing 20×10 cm for the entire growth characteristics.

Genetic variability, heritability, correlation and path analysis were estimated among 59 accessions of 08 quantitative characters in durum wheat. The highest value of GCV and PCV were observed for grain yield per plot, tillers per meter row length, spike length, grains per spike and test grain weight. It is also observed that the traits like grain yield per plot, tillers per meter row length, grains per spike and test grain weight exhibited high GCV also possesses high genetic gain indicating preponderance of additive gene effect for these traits.

The exploitation of yield potential through inter sub specific (inter-racial) hybridization become a challenging task for rice breeders. Grain yield improvement is considered to be prime objective of any breeding programme, quality traits are yet another important consideration of rice breeding in India. Association of yield and yield components and among grain quality traits thus assumes a unique prominence as the basis for selecting desirable high yielding genotypes with good grain quality characters.

Genotype R-RHZ-7 recorded highest number of tillers, panicle and grain while Genotype R-RHZ-MI-30 recorded maximum filled grain and straw yield as compared to other genotype. High fertility levels F3 (140:70:50 N, P and K kg ha-1 ) recorded maximum yield attribute and yield as compared to other fertility levels. Closer plant geometry S1 (15X10 cm) recorded maximum grain and straw yield where wider plant geometry S2 (20X10 cm) recorded maximum tiller and panicle.
