  • In the present paper, we propose the effective usage of function words to generate generalized translation rules for forest-based translation. Given aligned forest-string pairs, we extract composed tree-to-string translation rules that account for multiple interpretations of both aligned and unaligned target function words. In order to constrain the exhaustive attachments of function words, we limit to bind them to the nearby syntactic chunks yielded by a target dependency parser.

  • Use of vocabulary is an important aspect of academic writing. Again, following Storch and Tapper (2009), we examined the occurrences of vocabulary in the Academic Word List (AWL) developed by Coxhead (2000). The AWL consists of 570 word families derived from a corpus of academic texts drawn from our ‘sub- corpora’ from arts, commerce, law, and science (see Coxhead, 2000 for details). These words are academic words that are found across disciplines and comprise 9-10% of an academic text (Storch & Tapper, 2009).

  • Social media optimization is in many ways connected as a technique to viral marketing where word of mouth is created not through friends or family but through the use of networking in social bookmarking, video and photo sharing websites. In a similar way the engagement with blogs achieves the same by sharing content through the use of RSS in the blogosphere and special blog search engines.

  • This study implements word count function of Vector Space Model and singular value decomposition (SVD) technique of feature extraction based on dimensionality reduction. The proposed system presents an effective pre-processing and dimensionality reduction techniques which help the document classify by using naïve byes algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed method enhances the performance of document classification.

  • Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Information Retrieval has always been an interesting and challenging research area. Despite the high expectations, most of the results indicate that successfully using NLP is very complex. In this paper, we show how Support Vector Machines along with kernel functions can effectively represent syntax and semantics. Our experiments on question/answer classification show that the above models highly improve on bag-of-words on a TREC dataset.
