  • This paper aims to assess the performance of China’s banks by their geographical distribution of loans and deposits, with the application of Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) method’s multiple linear regression. We chose one of the four largest banks, Agriculture Bank of China, with data from 1990 to 2008 as the sample bank. We identified that branches’ performances in the Yangtze River Delta ranked first and were followed by the Pearl River Delta.

  • This paper theoretically and empirically explores the reason why Chinese enterprises engage in inefficient investment from the government’s grabbing hand perspective on a large sample of 8501 firm-year observations between 2003 and 2011. The results suggest that influenced by the grabbing hand of local officials, private enterprises exhibit significantly higher investment distortion and inefficiency in terms of overinvestment and underinvestment than the enterprises controlled by the governments at all levels.

  • This paper proposes a dualism of hypothesis derived from dynamic Cournot competition on whether house building is driven by credit constraint corresponding to collateral value. Using monthly data from Jan 2004 to May 2016 of 26 Chinese provinces and 4 direct-controlled municipalities, the empirical test suggests that collateral value do drive house building.

  • This paper tests whether macro monetary shock will influence stock market. Employing approaches of event study and abnormal returns regression, this paper finds that reserve ratio decreasing does lead to positive abnormal returns, but it works through different channels in each event. Further analyzing shows that characteristics of the stock market of China make the differences: market overreacts to unexpected shock and underreacts to expectable event.

  • Using the financial data of A-share listed companies in 2003-2018, this paper studies the maturity mismatch of investment and financing in China based on the sensitivity of investment to change of short-term loans. This study finds that corporate investment relies on short-term loans rather than long-term loans, so the maturity mismatch of investment and financing is widespread. In addition, we examine the mechanism of the heterogeneity between state-owned enterprises and private enterprises.

  • This paper studies the relationship between the risk-free rate and the expected consumption growth. Using the monthly time series data from 2002.01-2017.12, we obtain the following empirical evidences: 1) In the whole period, US supports the positive intertemporal substitution effect and rejects the negative precautionary saving effect. Accordingly, China rejects the positive intertemporal substitution effect and supports the negative precautionary saving effect. 2) In the subsample period 2002.01-2008.

  • Using China's A-share listed companies as a sample, this paper provides empirical evidence that with the deepening of financialisation in non-financial corporate sector, the level of corporate risk-taking is significantly reduced, and the complete mediating effect is R&D innovation. The results are still robust when we use instrumental variable method, and the negative impact of financialisation on corporate risk taking is significantly reduced under the constraints of a good governance mechanism.

To guide empirical work, we develop a basic model where the effect of Internet development on industrial development depends on the improvement of production technology of enterprises. We test the predictions of the model by studying the application of e-commerce, the sales revenue of basic software products and the number of computers used in China, which formed the basis of Internet development.

  • By using the panel data of China’s listed companies from 1999 to 2013 in the CSMAR database, this paper empirically finds that top management team (hereinafter referred to as TMT) size has a significant impact on corporate performance and presents an inverted U-shaped relationship, with the optimal TMT size being about 14 to 15. But the influence of TMT size is no longer significant after controlling board size, that is to say, board size is the core problem of executive governance.
