Empowering rural women

Rural women constitute 70 per cent of total female population of the country. The profile of rural woman is that of illiterate, ignorant, poor, superstitious, suppressed and oppressed because of limited skills. The rural woman needs to be trained, through life skills education. Education is a powerful tool for transformation of society. It can inculcate social, moral, and professional values in a person. It can also help in Life skills development.

This research paper mainly concerned with the women entrepreneurship situation in rural area of India. This study highlighted the current status of women entrepreneurs and their valuable contribution in sustainable economic growth of rural areas of India. This paper also focuses on the future scenario of women entrepreneurs and government initiatives for making women entrepreneurs more unbeaten. This study reveals some strategies for empowering rural women.

Vermicomposting venture has a potential to help farmers fetch reasonable profits with little inputs. Vermicomposting is gaining popularity among rural women folk and is empowering them in many ways. The same has gained popularity among the women folks too. A study was planned to assess the socioeconomic status of women farmers getting their livelihood from vermicompost production in the districts of Bandipora and Baramulla of Jammu and Kashmir.

Goat is considered as poor man‟s cow and it can be profitably being reared with low investment under semiintensive as well as the extensive systems of management. This paper is a review of leadership research, focusing primarily on women as leaders. The more recent perspective of studying leaders by examining followers is included; but research is sparse as to how leaders are perceived as empowering by their subordinates. A study in progress, conducted by Sakhi Social Enterprise Network (SSEN) Latur indicates that stereotypes were more typically held by women against female leaders. However, a leader's ability to be empowering varies with status. The higher the status, the more empowering that individual is perceived, whether female or male.

The present investigation was undertaken in Bhagalpur district of Bihar State to examine constraints faced by NGOs in empowering the rural women. It has been endeavoured to find out what and how the NGOs go through in their drive towards empowering the rural women. Empowerment of women has been conceptualized as creating in the rural women the capacity and ability to be economically productive and socially capable so as to fit and suit in the society fully as well as compete favourably with men in different aspects of life.

The study revealed that exposure to training, Front Line Demonstration, Technical Bulletin and Extension literature etc. had increased the knowledge of rural farmwomen regarding all the subcomponents of mushroom production and empower a woman is to empower next generation. There is an urgent need to make rural farm women economically independent and we cannot think of a better alternative than entrepreneurship development.

The novel experiments was undertaken among 60 on-campus trainees and 60 off-campus trainees spread among three purposively selected villages under two blocks under the domain of KVK Jainagar, Koderma. The 20 on-campus trainees and 20 off campus trainees were selected randomly from each selected villages. For the purpose of this study, Two variables namely, extent of participation and impact of KVKs in empowering rural women has been operationalized as the degree to which farm women participant in various activities in lac cultivation.

Rural women play a crucial role for the well being of their families. Without any glare of publicity, they contribute their best to the welfare and progress of the society. Entrepreneurship-development and income-generating activities are feasible solution for empowering the women.
