English majored students’ speaking skill

This article reports on research into the problems that non-English major freshmen at Quy Nhon University face when they lose interest in learning English speaking skills. The subjects were 200 first-year non-English majors belonging to non-English majors such as Economics, Accounting, Natural Resources and Environmental Management, Food Technology, and Construction Engineering etc. at Quy Nhon University.

Based on the aforementioned reasons and the reality of teaching and learning English speaking at The Asian High School (hereafter AHS), the author conducted a study with the aim of allowing AHS students at Cao Thang Campus to share what English speaking problems they have faced while learning speaking in the classroom.

The reading comprehension skill is considered as one of the four fundamental language skills that an EFL learner must perform. Actually, it is not an easy skill since most of learners have many reading issues. The purpose of this present work is to investigate on these reading difficulties that grade 10 students at the Asian International Highschool face, and to identify their reading problems and the reasons behind their weaknesses in performing the reading task.

This research is aimed to find out the mistakes students at Asian High School (AHS) usually have while they have a Listening test. Since their faults happen quite a lot when they build an academic essay, this research also gives students best methods to improve their listening skills. Because of serious misunderstanding between vocabularies, grammars and styles of person speaking and the accent, this research points out types of person speaking, accent, and style which are demonstrated in this study as well.

With the important of speaking skills mentioned above, this study is researching the factors behind common speaking difficulties that face secondary school students at class 7/29 and 7/30 - The Asian International School (AHS) – Cao Thang Campus. Besides that, it seeks to investigate some effective solutions and teaching methods that teacher can apply in the lectures to solve students’ speaking difficulties, as well as improving theirs abilities in speaking English.
