Coastal dunes are characterised by plant species adapted to harsh conditions. Salinity and other factors (soil pH, nutrients, and climate events) vary along the landward gradient. The current study investigated the effects of environmental factors on the occurrence and composition of coastal dune plants. Ellenberg ecological indicator values (EIVs), species tolerance values (TVs), and species niche models for salinity, nutrient availability, and soil reaction were determined.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing concern globally, but the impact is very deleterious in the context of Bangladesh. Recent review article on the AMR issue demonstrates the scenario in human medicine; unfortunately, no attempt was taken to address this as One Health issue.

Chlamydia-like organisms (CLO) have been found to be present in many environmental niches, including human sewage and agricultural run-of, as well as in a number of aquatic species worldwide. Therefore, monitoring their presence in sentinel wildlife species may be useful in assessing the wider health of marine food webs in response to habitat loss, pollution and disease.

During faunal rescue activities for the construction of a wind farm in the Northeast Region of Brazil, a single specimen of the gymnophthalmid lizard Anotosaura vanzolinia was captured, which represents the first record of the species for the state of Piauí. We used this record, along with records found in the literature, to model the potential distribution of the species according to environmental suitability using the maximum entropy algorithm MaxEnt. The occurrence records of A.

Ecological niche models (ENMs) provide information to assess the effects of environmental and climatic conditions on species distribution. The purpose of this study was to predict the impact of climate change on a critically endangered species, Campanula yaltirikii H.Duman. It is a local endemic chasmophyte from Mt Çığlıkara (Antalya, Turkey), restricted to cracks in calcareous rocks and threatened by goat overgrazing. Current and future ENMs of C. yaltirikii were predicted with a maximum entropy (Maxent) algorithm.

Pseudomonas putida is a Gram-negative, non-fermenting bacterium frequently encountered in various environmental niches. P. putida rarely causes disease in humans, though serious infections and outbreaks have been reported from time to time. Some have suggested that P. putida functions as an exchange platform for antibiotic resistance genes (ARG), and thus represents a serious concern in the spread of ARGs to more pathogenic organisms within a hospital.

Vibrios are among the most diverse and ecologically important marine bacteria, which have evolved many characteristics and lifestyles to occupy various niches. The relationship between genome features and environmental adaptation strategies is an essential part for understanding the ecological functions of vibrios in the marine system. The advent of complete genome sequencing technology has provided an important method of examining the genetic characteristics of vibrios on the genomic level.

The insect olfactory system is a highly specific and sensitive chemical detector, which plays important roles in feeding, mating and finding an appropriate oviposition site. The ecological niche of Bombyx mori has changed greatly since domestication from B. mandarina, and its olfactory response to environmental odorants clearly decreased. However, the mechanisms that result in the olfactory impairment are largely unknown.

The wastewater generated from sterilization, condensation and hydrocycloning of palm oil fruits during milling activities is referred to as Palm oil mill effluent (POME). It shows the presence of residue oil and suspended solids, due to its high biological oxygen demand (BOD), low pH and colloidal nature, its potentials to pollute both ecological niches have been attributed to the most intricate environmental turmoil for the 21st century.

Niche differentiation is a prominent hypothesis explaining the maintenance of tree species diversity in tropical forests (Connell 1978). It suggests that different species are best suited to different habitats in which they are completely dominant and more abundant than in less suitable habitats (Harms et al. 2001). In addition, distribution patterns of tropical trees are generally more clumped or aggregated than random (Condit et al. 2000). Furthermore, environmental heterogeneity (difference in soil, elevation, slope, etc.

The aim of this study was to isolate and identify environmental bacteria from various soils in areas where human activities influence the soil microbiota and might exert a strong positive pressure to resistance development and spreading. Our results revealed that environmental bacteria with high antibiotic resistant level. All the gram positive bacterial isolates showed resistant against Penicillin G and Ampicillin. Out of 27 gram negative bacterial isolates, 23 organisms showed ESBL positive based on phenotypic characterization.

The biomass production of Trichoderma species is greatly influenced by the type of nutritional sources besides environmental factors. To evaluate the influence of nutrient sources on the biomass production of T. viride various carbon sources such as peptone, mannitol, glucose and nitrogen sources such as ammonium sulphate, urea and potassium nitrate were used in this study. Among the tested carbon sources, significantly highest biomass production was observed in peptone supplemented media followed by glucose and mannitol.

The industry is still improving technologically. It is far more mature than in 1993, and new developments appear poised to bring costs down further and to reduce the environmental impact of producing ethanol. In this report, we examine various production technologies, beginning with input improve- ments and then discussing process improvements, environmental technolo- gies, and technologies involving coproducts. Finally, we look at niche markets and briefly examine cellulosic conversion.

Since the first production of tools at the beginning of human presence on Earth, human evolution is linked to the invention of new tools, usually combined with new environmental adaptations. The symbiosis of man with tools and environments represents one of the main factors in human evolutionary processes. It is evident how this coupling is based on the biophysics of our bodies and the development of the social memory system called culture.

Life history theorists assume that the physiological and behavioural characteristics of organisms represent an approximate solution to the problem of optimizing the allocation of time, energy and resources between somatic, mating and parenting effort. The particular solution will depend on the organism’s environmental niche as well as its evolutionary history. In general, effort allocated to reproduction will decrease an organism’s ability to survive, grow and develop. Conversely, effort allocated to survival, growth and development will decrease reproduction.
