Environmental parameters

The project's main objectives were to analyse the data obtained during geological exploration and use it to model and predict biological patterns in order to answer the main research questions: 1) Is there a statistical relationship between the environmental parameters and the benthic community composition and morphospecies observed? 2) Can predictive models be developed from this relationship? In achieving these main objectives, the project also developed recommendations for methods that could be applied during geological exploration voyages to maximise the potential use of data collected.

Once the mechanical properties of printed TPU are characterised, a novel, low cost, and environmentally friendly method for concrete casting using printed TPU moulds is proposed in this thesis. The findings of this thesis will provide clear guidelines for the selection of processing parameters for additively manufactured TPU parts and the method of casting complicated concrete structures with additively manufactured TPU mould.

VanXYC, a bifunctional enzyme from VanC-phenotype Enterococcus gallinarum BM4174 that catalyses D,D-peptidase and D,D-carboxypeptidase activities, was purified as the native protein, as a maltose-binding protein fusion and with an N-terminal tag containing six histidine residues. Thrombi, which are dissolved primarily by plasmin (EC 3.4.21.7.), contain up to millimolar concentrations of fatty acids and these are known to affect the action of the protease. In the present study the modulation of plasmin activity was characterized quantitatively in a continuous amidolytic assay based on synthetic plasmin substrate (Spectrozyme-PL).

Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) possess a unique ability to bind to a seed ice crystal to inhibit its growth. The strength of this binding has been evalu-ated by thermal hysteresis (TH). In this study, we examined the dependence of TH on experimental parameters, including cooling rate, annealing time, annealing temperature and the size of the seed ice crystal for an isoform of type III AFP from notched-fin eelpout (nfeAFP8).
