  • Macro- and micromorphological features of fruit and seeds belonging to 12 taxa genera of Matthiola W.T.Aiton were studied via stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscope. In macromorphological studies, the following variables were investigated: the shape, size, and color of fruit and seeds; the length of fruiting pedicel; the structure of the median vein; stigma (horns); and trichome properties and density in fruit. In micromorphological studies, the presence or absence of seed wings, seed coat pattern in disc and wing, and epidermal cell shape in disc and wing were determined.

  • Nutlets of 13 taxa of subfamily Cyperoideae (Cyperaceae) from Egypt were investigated using light and scanning electron microscopes to ascertain the taxonomic utility of the nutlet in corroborating and elaborating on distinctions between closely related genera and species. The studied taxa included representatives of tribes Fuireneae, Cypereae, Cariceae, Abildgaardieae and Schoeneae. Nutlet shape, size, color, surface, epidermal cell shape, anticlinal boundaries, outer periclinal cell wall and relief of outer cell walls were provided.

  • Salvadora oleoides Decne. (Salvadoraceae) is a facultative and mesomorphic xerophyte, well adapted to arid and semi-arid regions. Twelve populations were selected from different ecological regions of Punjab to investigate structural modifications that are essential for water conservation, by either improving water-storing capacity or preventing water loss from the plant body, hence, enabling this species to cope with environmental extremities. We observed significant plasticity in structural features, which ensures ecological success in a variety of environmental conditions.

  • Root hair, a special type of tubular-shaped cell, outgrows from root epidermal cell and plays important roles in the acquisition of nutrients and water, as well as interactions with biotic and abiotic stress. Although many genes involved in root hair development have been identified, genetic basis of natural variation in root hair growth has never been explored.

  • Present investigation deals with the pharmacognostic studies of some medicinally important species of Curcuma L. namely Curcuma amada Roxb., Curcuma aromatica Salisb., Curcuma caesia Roxb., Curcuma longa L. and Curcuma zedoaria (Christm.) Roscoe. Distinct variation was observed during foliar epidermal micromorphology study. Epidermal cell shape was found distinctly variable though cell wall outline was found to be straight in all the selected species. Leaves of the investigated taxa were found to be amphistomatic and the stomata are of tetracytic type.

  • A study was conducted to find out the novel mutants induced by the gamma irradiation in tuberose crop. The experiment was carried out at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. Two cultivars Prajwal and PhuleRajani with three bulb stages were selected freshly harvested bulb (B0), three weeks after uprooting (B1) and six weeks after uprooting (B2) were irradiated by G1-2.5Gy, D2-5.0Gy, G3-7.5Gy, G4-10.0Gy and G5-15.0 Gy of gamma rays along with control (G0-0Gy) without irradiation. Gamma radiation affected the sprouting in variety Prajwal where above 2.

  • We succeeded in large volume artificial cultivation of Onygena corvina. The appearance (shape, color, and size) of fruiting bodies of cultured bacteria was almost the same as that of wild one. We screened their metabolites for antiproliferative activities against nine human cancer cells in vitro. Culture filtrates (metabolite-containing media) of O. corvina were lyophilized and resuspended in phosphate buffer to investigate them in vitro. As a result, these metabolites effectively inhibited the growth of some cancer cells in a concentration-dependent manner.

  • This study presents macro- and micromorphological characters, including fruit and seed shape, size, colour, fruiting pedicel size, fruit hair and density, seed coat pattern, epidermal cell shape, and anticlinal and periclinal cell walls. The results showed that the morphological characteristics of the fruit and seed could be used as criteria to distinguish genera and tribes.

  • The leaf epidermis of 14 Onosma L. species was examined by light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The leaf characters studied showed some variations. Morphologic features of the epidermal cells such as shape, structure of the anticlinal walls, stomatal size, outer stomatal rims, peristomatal rims, and apertures were summarised in the examined taxa.

  • Seed coat morphology of 15 species of Ipomoea L. was examined comparatively using scanning and light microscopy methods in order to evaluate their diagnostic value for systematic studies. Macro- and micromorphological characters, including seed shape, colour, size, seed surface, epidermal cell shape, anticlinal boundaries, and periclinal cell wall are presented.

  • In the samples, various epidermal features were identified in the spur that developmentally are invaginations of the labellum and the adaxial surface of the labellum. Typical secretory cells and inclusions such as starch or calcium oxalate crystals of different sizes and shapes were found within the structure of individuals.

  • These carriers have different shapes and sizes, and their biogenesis, modality of transport, and delivery to the final destination are regulated by a multitude of very complex molecular machineries, which include cytoskeletal elements, signaling complexes, and lipid modifying enzymes to name a few. A concept that has clearly emerged in the last decade is that each membrane pathway does not represent a close system, but is fully integrated with all the other trafficking pathways.
