Evaluation of crop diversification
-
The improved performance of plants can be manifested in higher yields, tolerance to stresses and increased nutritional value of fruits. This research was therefore aimed at evaluating new varieties of watermelon in Prayagraj region. It provides a simple way to combat climate change by crop diversification.

An experiment was executed with ten crop sequences during 2010-17 at C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh under All India Coordinating Research Project on Cropping Systems. All these sequences were evaluated for yield, economics, profitability and to identify the remunerative cropping sequence among rice and maize based cropping sequences. Results revealed that Hyb.

Crop diversification with resource efficient and remunerative cropping systems is a sustainable agricultural practice. On farm demonstrations with diversified cropping system of Redgram + soybean Vis-a-Vis farmers’ practice of sole cotton were conducted in ten farmer’s locations of Warangal district of Telangana state. Crop diversification with red gram + soybean realized 29.9% higher (3706 kg ha-1 ) mean cotton kapas equivalent yield over farmer’s practice of cultivation of sole cotton (2852 kg ha-1 ). Mean technology and extension gap were 594 kg ha-1 and 854 kg ha-1 respectively.

Rice based production systems in the sub-humid region (Purvanchal) of Uttar Pradesh are traditional, with low yield and low farm income, and they have largely missed out on the benefits of the Green Revolution. To enhance productivity, alleviate environmental and management constraints, and enhance farmers’ income in the rice–wheat cropping system of the sub-humid Purvanchal region, Uttar Pradesh, new approaches that are more productive and sustainable need to be developed.
