Evolutionary ages

The tectonic evolutionary history between the Xing’an Block (XB) and Songnen Block (SB) in the eastern Central Asia Orogenic Belt (CAOB) has been hotly debated. In this study, we present a series of new data to provide a better constraint on the magmatic process during plate subduction and its implications for the regional tectonic evolution of XB and SB, even the CAOB. The whole-rock geochemistry and zircon U-Pb chronology of syenogranite in the Chaihe area of the Great Xing’an Range have been carried out.

It is thought that Spalacidae (Rodentia, Mammalia) originated in Anatolia. They are widespread among Neogene-aged faunas in Anatolia and they are used as zonal fossils because of their strong evolutionary dynamics. Only one fossil species (S. odessanus, Middle Pliocene) has been identified from the genus Spalax, which has more than 14 species presently. There are no fossil findings of this genus in Anatolia. Early Pleistocene-aged Spalax denizliensissp. nov. from the Denizli Basin is the youngest fossil Spalax species and it will be helpful to understand the evolution of recent Spalax species.

Rapid evolution of phosphorylation sites could provide raw materials of natural selection to fit the environment by rewiring the regulation of signal pathways. However, a large part of phosphorylation sites was suggested to be non-functional. Although the new-arising phosphorylation sites with little functional implications prevailed in fungi, the evolutionary performance of vertebrate phosphorylation sites remained elusive.

In the soma, changes in the landscape of heterochromatin have been proposed to have an important role in aging.

It is known that aging is a multifactorial mechanism composed of both genetic and environmental components. The main evolutionary theories of aging are antagonistic pleiotropy and mutation accumulation, neither of which has substantial experimental support yet. In this study, the longevities of three wild type strains of Drosophila melanogaster and F1 hybrids derived from them were determined.

School location influences travel distance, which in turn influences travel behavior (McDonald, 2005; 2008; McMillan, 2005; McMillan et al, 2006). School commuting via walking and bicycling decreased from 41% in 1969 to 13% in 2003, with the largest decreases among nonwhite elementary students; roughly half (47%) of the decline was explained by the increased distance between home and school (McDonald, 2008). Changes in the school-age population, including race and child age, and changing attitudes towards school travel likely explain some of the decline as well.

In addition to the utility of specific applications, an evolutionary perspective fundamentally challenges the prevalent but fundamentally incorrect metaphor of the body as a machine designed by an engineer.

Abstract Complex I is the fi rst enzyme of the respiratory chain and plays a central role in cellular energy production. It has been implicated in many human neurodegenerative diseases, as well as in ageing. One of the biggest membrane protein complexes, varying in size from 0.5 to 1 MDa, it is an L-shaped assembly consisting of hydrophilic and membrane domains. Previously, we determined the structure of the hydrophilic domain in several redox states. It established the pathway for electron transfer from NADH to quinone via seven Fe-S clusters.
