Ebook "Introduction to computational biology: An evolutionary approach" Analysis of molecular sequence data is the main subject of this introduction to computational biology. There are two closely connected aspects to biological sequences: (i) their relative position in the space of all other sequences, and (ii) their movement through this sequence space in evolutionary time. Accordingly, the first part of the book deals with classical methods of sequence analysis: pairwise alignment, exact string matching, multiple alignment, and hidden Markov models.

All species within a community either directly or indirectly interact with each other. Such interactions serve as the nucleus of both ecological and evolutionary processes. This study focused on dominant tree species' interspecific associations and the stability of evergreen broadleaved forest stands in Phu Quoc National Park in Kien Giang province of Vietnam.

There is substantial interest in the evolutionary forces that shaped the regulatory framework in early human development. Progress in this area has been slow because it is difficult to obtain relevant biological samples. Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) may provide the ability to establish in vitro models of early human and non-human primate developmental stages.

Various studies have shown that the insulin-like peptides present in insects and investigation of their possible effects on insect physiology have significance for clarifying the evolutionary developmental period of insulin. The insect fat body is an organ analog to vertebrate adipose tissue and liver. In insects which do not have feeding activity during pupal and adult stages such as Bombyx mori, substances and energy required for continuation of life and development of tissues and organs are provided by the fat body via the autophagy process.

The aim of this research is to examine the current evolutionary stages of management accounting practices (MAPs) in Vietnamese commercial enterprises with reference to the management accounting evolution model proposed by IFAC (1998). In this paper, the questionnaire survey was employed to collect information. We received 81 questionnaires which meets the reliability and the completion requirements, equivalent to 32.4% response rate.

Viruses undergo extensive evolutionary selection for efficient replication which effects, among others, their codon distribution. In the current study, we aimed at understanding the way evolution shapes the codon distribution in early vs. late viral genes in terms of their expression during different stages in the viral replication cycle. To this end we analyzed 14 bacteriophages and 11 human viruses with available information about the expression phases of their genes.

Certain sequences of genomic mutations can lead to cancer formation and affect treatment outcomes and drug resistance. We constructed a cancer evolutionary tree using bulk-targeted deep sequencing to explore the impact of sequential and co-occurring somatic mutations on patients with stage III colorectal cancer (CRC).

Organismal fitness can be determined at early life-stages, but phenotypic variation at early life-stages is rarely considered in studies on evolutionary diversification. The trophic apparatus has been shown to contribute to sympatric resource-mediated divergence in several taxa.

The standard genetic code is a recipe for assigning unambiguously 21 labels, i.e. amino acids and stop translation signal, to 64 codons. However, at early stages of the translational machinery development, the codons did not have to be read unambiguously and the early genetic codes could have contained some ambiguous assignments of codons to amino acids.

The evolutionary basis of reproductive success in different environments is of major interest in the study of plant adaptation. Since the reproductive stage is particularly sensitive to drought, genes affecting reproductive success during this stage are key players in the evolution of adaptive mechanisms.

The aim of this study is to examine the current evolutionary stage of management accounting evolution models. In this paper, we focus on Vietnamese food and beverage enterprises because this sector has been considered as the largest in the Vietnamese manufacturing industry for many years. We employ a questionaire survey to study the extent these enterprises have adopted certain traditional and modern management accounting practices and the main characteristics of their costing and product pricing systems.
