Eight F3 populations and one check (JS 335) of soybean were evaluated at the experimental farm of Agricultural Botany Section, College of Agriculture Nagpur during Kharif 2018-19 using randomized block design with 3 replications. The objectives of the study were to investigate the correlations among seven characters of soybean which will be used for the selection of seed yield in early generations.

At the same time, the breeding lines from the advanced generations are also used as parental lines for developing commercially exploitable heterotic hybrids. But, most often the source of early generations i.e., F3, F4, F5 and F6 segregating populations offer wider opportunities for achieving high success, because of wider genetic base.

The aim of this study was to determine selection gain and selection intensity for high yield i.e. to estimate the genetic potential transferred from F2 generation to F3 generation by using a total of 200 progenies were studied in F3 generation during kharif, 2014.

Variability studies were carried out for different characters of groundnut derived from four crosses viz., Kadri-9 x GPBD-4, ICGV-00351 x GPBD-4, Kadri-9 x Sunoleic-95R, ICGV-00351 x Sunoleic-95R. Results revealed that the presence of moderate to high PCV and GCV for most of the traits, further a high heritability coupled with high genetic advance was also observed for these traits indicating the involvement of additive gene action in controlling these traits making selection effective.

Transgressive segregation is a very important phenomena where the segregating individual will possesses the value for a character which is exceeding the better parent. In the present study transgressive segregants were studied in four crosses for SCMR(SPAD Chlorophyll meter reading), SLA (specific leaf area), total biomass per plant, shoot weight per plant, root weight per plant, shelling out-turn per plant, harvest index per plant, pod yield per plant and kernel yield per plant. All the characters under study showed transgressive segregation in all the four crosses.

The present investigation was carried out to the heterosis, inbreeding depression and residual heterosis for yield and yield attributing traits in segregating generations of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.). An experimental material comprised F2 and F3 segregation generation, two parents, F1 and one standard check (Parbhani kranti) were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications during kharif 2017.

A research work was undertaken at Agricultural College and Research Institute during late rabi, 2016 (Nov-Feb), and rabi, 2017 (Nov-Feb) to determine the response of selection for grain yield and yield related components and to estimate the amount of genetic potential transferred from one generation to next generation using different segregating generations of rice. In the present study, segregating generations viz., F2, F3 and generations of four crosses viz.

In F3 population except seeds per siliqua and 100 seed weight the 15 crosses differed significantly for all the other nine characters, however in F4 population the 15 crosses differed significantly for all the characters. Pusa Bahar × Rajasthan local selection -1 (13.62) was the highest performer in F3 generation and in F4 Rajasthan local selection1 × Pusa Barani (12.53) was the highest yielder.

Correlation and presence of genetic interactions was studied using F2 and F3 generations in two cowpea crosses for yield and its component traits. Most of the characters studied were positively skewed and were being governed by several genes indicating quantitative inheritance. Variance, skewness and kurtosis have also indicated that homozygosity has increased from the generation to generation in cowpea crosses. Cross A (C-152 × V-16) was found better than crossB (C-152 × V-57817) in providing high yielding segregants displaying parental diversity.

Genetic variability is prerequisite for any crop improvement program as it helps breeders in selecting the superior plants in segregating generations. Genetic variability for yield and its contributing traits in F3 and F4 generations derived from the cross WH 711 / WH 542 was assessed. The 238 F3 and F4 progenies along with parents were characterized on the basis of 12 morpho-physiological traits. The study revealed highly significant difference among the progenies for yield and its contributing traits.

Late leaf spot caused by Phaeoisariopsis personata is the most important disease on groundnut worldwide. Although fungicide treatment is effective, it is uneconomical to use because of high cost, hazardous to environment and insensitivity build up in pathogen. The deployment of resistant cultivars is a better option to control LLS disease in groundnut the investigation was undertaken to determine the mode of genetic inheritance of LLS resistance in two F2 and F3 segregating populations of groundnut.
