Factors influencing survival outcomes

In oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging system is a significant factor that influences prognosis and treatment decisions for OSCC patients. Unfortunately, TNM staging does not consistently predict patient prognosis and patients with identical clinicopathological characteristics may have vastly diferent survival outcomes.

Early-stage colorectal cancer had excellent outcomes after curative resection, typically. However, a per‑ plexing survival paradox between stage II and stage III was noted. This paradox could be influenced by the admin‑ istration of routine postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and the presence of high-risk factors in stage II CRC.

The primary objective of this paper is to identify CSR factors that influence the competitiveness of SMEs in VITAS and to develop a hypothesised model that can be tested on SMEs in VITAS. Although SMEs in VITAS are increasingly becoming the backbone of the economy, their rate of survival and competitiveness are a cause for concern. The outcomes of CSR activities can help to improve the survival rate of SMEs in VITAS, and may offer great opportunities for business competitiveness, locally and globally.

The surgical management and outcomes of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with venous tumor thrombus (VTT) have been reported in limited sample size, and there remain discrepancies over the factors that influence oncologic outcomes after radical nephrectomy with thrombectomy (RNTE). The aim of the study was to analyze the outcomes of the patients with RCC with VTT in our institution and identify the independent prognostic factors.

Studies reported contradictory results for the prognostic significance of a pathological fracture in osteosarcoma patients. The aim of this study is to report the outcomes for a cohort of patients with osteosarcoma who presented with and without pathological fractures and to identify the prognostic importance of pathological fracture in predicting outcomes and influences on survival.

Chemotherapy with trastuzumab is widely used for patients with human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive (HER2+) breast cancer, but a significant number of patients with the tumor fail to respond, or relapse. The mechanisms of recurrence and biomarkers that indicate the response to the chemotherapy and outcome are not fully investigated.

Breast cancer outcomes are influenced by multiple factors including access to care, and payer status is a recognized barrier to treatment access. To further define the influence of payer status on outcome, the National Cancer Data Base data from 1998–2006 was analyzed.

Median overall survival (OS) of patients with melanoma brain metastases (MBM) is usually 6 months or less. There are rare reports of patients with treated MBM who survived for years. These outlier cases represent valuable opportunities to study the somatic and germline factors that may have influenced patient outcome and led to extended survival.

Platelet and blood coagulation abnormalities frequently occur in cancer patients. Fibrinogen is an important hemostatic factor that regulates the hemostatic pathway. Hyperfibrinogenemia is increasing recognized as an important risk factor influencing cancer development and outcome.

Studies over the past 10 years strongly support an association between skeletal muscle mass (SMM) depletion and outcome in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). Factors influencing SMM changes over time are, however, poorly studied.

There is increasing recognition that new forms of partnership and intersectoral work are required to address the social and economic determinants of health. Investments in both education and health are compromised unless a school is a healthy place in which to live, learn and work. School communities respond to a dynamic set of factors affecting student achievement and learning outcomes. The health of students, teachers and families is a key factor influencing learning.
