The study aims to explore the factors affecting students’ decision to choose a university at Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU). The study uses the Partial Least Square- Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) to test the fit of the model and the research hypotheses with the analytical data obtained from 460 first-year students of member universities and faculties under VNU.

This article addresses ESP and developing ESP syllabi and teaching materials by conducting situation and needs analysis. This is followed by a description of the methodology including both interviews with teachers and questionnaires with students at the three faculties in analyzing the needs. Subsequently, the findings from these semi-controlled interviews and questionnaires are presented and discussed. The paper finishes with some practical suggestions for the procedure in developing ESP syllabi and teaching materials.

The purpose of the study is to test the awareness and prove the feasibility of applying the Theory of Multiple Intelligences to improve the quality of teaching the subject “Revolutionary Line of the Vietnamese Communist Party” in classes with large numbers of students at Hanoi National University of Education.
